Juri_JS Posted December 16, 2023 Posted December 16, 2023 Time to share some screenshots. Sturmovik over Immola airfield: Pe-2s near Kirvu: Yak-9 over Viipuri/Vyborg Bay: 21 1 6
Trooper117 Posted December 16, 2023 Posted December 16, 2023 That Sturmovik blends in nicely with the terrain... 2

Especially from a recognized master. After all, no matter how good and interesting the map is, and it is, without campaigns it will be almost useless. For example, like the Prokhorovka map. Ideally, a career would be placed on such a map, but I doubt that the studio’s resources will be allocated for this. 4 1 1
Popular Post Juri_JS Posted December 17, 2023 Popular Post Posted December 17, 2023 Here the information on my campaign project for the Karelia map. The map will be released together with a free scripted 12 mission fighter campaign for the Fw-190 A-6. The player will fly as pilot of Gefechtsverband Kuhlmey.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Detachment_Kuhlmey Gefechtsverband Kuhlmey was a Luftwaffe detachment that was send to Finland to support the country in the summer of 1944 during the Red Army's Vyborg–Petrozavodsk offensive.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vyborg–Petrozavodsk_offensive The detachment was based at the airfield of Immola and the following units belonged to it: - I./Schlachtgeschwader 3 (Ju-87 D-5) - II./Jagdgeschwader 54 (Fw 190 A-6) - 1./Schlachtgeschwader 5 (Fw-190 F-8) - 1./Nahaufklärungsgruppe 5 (Bf-109 G-8) You will fly fighter missions during June and July 1944 and participate in the battles of Tienhaara, Tali-Ihantala, Viipuri Bay and Vuosalmi. I am also working on a fighter-bomber campaign for the Fw-190 F-8 that will be released after the fighter campaign. 35 10 6

We have also discussed the Career mode with the game developers, but we still need to get the map more ready during this winter. So Career is not an excluded possibility. KarttaKomppania has several interested career path writers who have a lot of air war historical information about Finnish Air Squadrons and Air Force fighter and bomber pilots. We are also able to script Careers for Russian and German pilots both on the front against Finland and on the Siege of Leningrad until the Battle of Narva. Carl-Fredrik Geust, a well-known aviation historian and author of books about the Red Air Force, has tentatively promised to check their historical accuracy. 15 3 3

IckyATLAS Posted December 20, 2023 Posted December 20, 2023 WoW! It is just incredible what you are doing. I know having done myself a campaign the incredible amount it takes to do it if one wants to have it "realistic", and by that I mean land, air and sea on a map (Kuban in my case). And I did not create planes and maps just used whatever was existing. Your targets are stratospheric. I am just astonished by the magnitude and the incredible challenging objectives you have set. You have my full support. Toivotan hankkeellesi menestystä ja pitkää ikää. 1 1

Hi Juri, Following the update I've tried to play your new campaign for the Karelian map, but I get a CTD at the point I try to launch the campaign. Am I doing something wrong? Do I need to download the Karelian map from somewhere? In any case, everything else is working perfectly for me after yesterday's update, except this new campaign. I've created a new 1916 Flying Circus Pilot Career and run a couple of missions. I've run some missions in my existing WWII Pilot Careers. And I've also run some Scripted Campaign missions with no problem. I own all content for IL-2 Great Battles, so it's not a content issue. Thanks for your help! Edited December 20, 2023 by KodiakJac 1

Yogiflight Posted December 20, 2023 Posted December 20, 2023 Having the career mode extended to this map, as well as to the Prokhorovka and Velikje Luki map, would be a big win for GB. I wouldn't even expect it to be free. Why not sell it like the scripted campaigns? I am pretty sure there are many players, who would be willing to pay for it. 4 5
kestrel79 Posted December 20, 2023 Posted December 20, 2023 I remember in 2003 getting IL2 Forgotten Battles used at an EB games in the mall, and the campaign I picked first was Finland vs Russia stuff. I thought I know a lot of WW2 aircraft but wow there were so many underdog planes in this theater. It really sparked my interest in Eastern Front WW2, so this is excited to see! Hope we can get more aircraft that served this theater. 1 4

It's nice to hear the map interests you and yes, there are many interesting options for the future. As I said earlier, Karttakomppania and the game developers will surely discuss many, many things regarding the map and inform the community when the time is right. And as we "old timers" know, the right time is usually in two weeks. 3 2

NiiranenVR Posted December 24, 2023 Posted December 24, 2023 Great job you're doing I really hope the map is getting bigger as years come My mother is born in suojarvi 1939 , but when the winter war they escaped to Kotka - the life was horrible and the 5 kids become war chrilden and in 1943 my mother 4 years old , came to Denmark where she still live Her and her sister was in 2 different family's , but close to eachother so they had contact and the rest in Norway or Sweden Her father were in the war and he survived - but I have never seen him My mother had only postcard contact with her finish family after the war But , really great job you're doing ?? 3 1
KevPBur Posted December 24, 2023 Posted December 24, 2023 I too have connections to Kotka by way of my partner, in fact, we should be there celibrating Christmas today with her family but Covid has kept us home in England. I have been looking forward to this map since I rejoined IL-2 2 years ago. Finally I get to fly over the beautiful Kotka and our summer house on Hevossaari at the edge of the map grid 108. I truely am so impressed with the dedication to bring an entire new map to life with so many possibilities, Hurricanes and 109s in the same unit, 109 v 109 dogfights. 2 1

Mtnbiker1998 Posted December 29, 2023 Posted December 29, 2023 Would this thread make more sense in the third party apps section? I can't see where else it would fit but "mods" certainly wasn't it, and I don't think "scripted campaigns" is quite right either. 1
JG4_Thibaut Posted December 30, 2023 Posted December 30, 2023 Concerning the funding you the Team should consider making a one time payment possible. Several guys, who are very interested in this project, I talked to told me that they do not want to fund via a monthly subscription. For me it is the same. I'd be happy sending one time a sum after each update. Thank you for your commitment to that project. 1 3

LLv44_Kanttori Posted January 8, 2024 Posted January 8, 2024 Buildings of the city of Vyborg from the 1930s We have really talented young future Architects from Tampere University of Applied Sciences modeling buildings. Here are one of our Construction Architect interns' experiments with eight historic stone apartment buildings in Vyborg, where he has created impressive city views. These and many other Landmark buildings in the cities of Karelia are nearing completion and will be on the map during the spring of 2024. These pictures are testing with the Twinmotion application, not the game screenshots. But you can see from the pictures how devoted our students are to this internship, which they also like very much! Tony_Kito Posted January 13, 2024 Posted January 13, 2024 What has me most excited about this map, other than of course the depiction of the missing link of iconic battles of the Eastern Front, is the ability to flesh out an uninterrupted air campaign from 1941-1944. The air action over Leningrad spanned from the Volkhov river to the northern reaches of Finland and is the site of iconic struggles for air supremacy and daring Luftwaffe raids into the city. From I-16s to La-5FNs (and hopefully eventually from B-239s to Bf-109G-6s!) Karelia and Leningrad are high among my list of most anticipated sim projects for the near future! 6 1
