KojiKamori Posted December 9, 2023 Posted December 9, 2023 IL-2 goes way back for me, I haven't played CoD yet, though have recently played Battle of Stalingrad. (Though where is that forum?) From some of the messages here at first glance seems as CoD is a mod, yet is sold via steam for $10. So is it, its own game? Second, I was contacted via a Buzzsaw on discord. Told to reach out here, so here I am.

The Battle of Stalingrad is part of the Il2:Great Battles series so look in the Great Battles forum above for posts relating to that. The history of the IL2 games is pretty well summed up here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IL-2_Sturmovik_(series) Team Fusion effectively took over development of Cliff of Dover as group of enthusiasts as the original developers disbanded. Whilst Cliffs of Dover is referred to as second generation in the Wikipedia page and Great Battles as third generation, the game engines appear to be of a similar age and have differing capabilities and continue to be developed, so both can be considered as current IMHO.

jollyjack Posted December 13, 2023 Posted December 13, 2023 (edited) I really like Cliffs of Dover and Tobruk. Especially since the latest graphic updates. But i always get fed up with Steam each time i try it. Also the screw-ups with controls that get messed up and not working again, probably by Steam interfering and me figuring out again what to turn on or off there. Would love a Steam free version, even if it cost more .... Edited December 13, 2023 by jollyjack

Three combat flight simulators for PCs are sold under the brand "IL-2 Sturmovik": - "IL-2 Sturmovik" since 2001 (known as "IL-2 Sturmovik: 1946" since 2006). The forum for this game is visible above, on the tab named "IL-2 1946". - "IL-2 Sturmovik: Cliffs of Dover" since 2011 (discontinued in 2017 when version "IL-2 Sturmovik: Cliffs of Dover - Blitz" replaced the original version of 2011, "Blitz" is still under development today, it's the game you said is sold for $10). The forum for this game is where we are here, direct access is visible above on the tab named "Cliffs of Dover". - "IL-2 Sturmovik: Battle of...", a series of standalone modules that started in 2013/2014. The series received the label "IL-2 Sturmovik: Great Battles" in 2017. The forum for this game is visible above, on the tab named "Great Battles". 2
