Gambit21 Posted December 10, 2023 Posted December 10, 2023 @JG27_Abaster They have this upcoming module to complete, then they're moving to PTO. You can't expect that they'll be making a plane set for this 3rd party map...it's just not realistic. Doesn't mean it won't ever happen, I'm saying be very/pleasantly surprised if it happens rather than surprised if it doesn't...manage expectations. 1 1 1

So IL2 is doing PTO, combat Pilot is doing PTO and DCS is doing PTO. That's a pretty crowded field. 1

Well, in case of IL2 it is unconfirmed gossip, Combat Pilot won't have a product ready for release anywhere before 2026 and DCS might have one plane flyable and a map end of 2024. I would not call that crowded by any measure. 2 2

I would not call that crowded by any measure. It is if IL2 comes with PTO in 2026 or 27, with 2 established PTO sims already there. One of the probable reasons DCS ww2 is so far down the priority list is because IL2 already cornered the market. And it's much more profitable for DCS to do jets which they have basically a monopoly on now. Vs trying to compete properly in the ww2 sim market. So yes 3 PTO games in 2026 or 27 would be rather crowded.

Not that they can't change course between now and then mind you, but I don't see that happening. PTO is where the revenue is. 5 hours ago, Gunfreak said: So IL2 is doing PTO, combat Pilot is doing PTO and DCS is doing PTO. That's a pretty crowded field. That's where the money is sitting. Eastern front will result in financial ruin, as it nearly did for them before. I won't wind down the path of what saved them, but it wasn't more Eastern Front. It's literally PTO or bust, and they know this. 3 2

ZachariasX Posted December 11, 2023 Posted December 11, 2023 Really impressive! When they announced the Spit IXc with the rounded empenage, then I wondered if they would really go this way. For the old game, the FB expansion I felt was a good way to move forward, but I doubted they would do this again, given the effort of making the map. Seeing our Finnish friends retaining a healthy dose of self-help, that indeed changes the equation. Congrats guys, this is really looking good! As for the PTO, given the general reluctance of coming up with a decent way of time skipping (it is just not a topic anyone discusses which tells you the priority), it may take three entries to the PTO to end up with one that really works in terms of playability. Game mechanics based on real world half hour missions just don‘t work with on average three hour real world missions.
Robli Posted December 11, 2023 Posted December 11, 2023 Very nice to see it getting close to completion. I was wondering how Leningrad would be handled and now I see that it is not excluded from the map in any way.

Ok, I see ...but what about some planes to complete a Barbarossa timeframe? How many planes would be need then? Do17/217, Hs123, etc

Yeah he definitely comes across as being very impressed with his cleverness. It is a nice, fast-paced overview of the campaign, although the prologue of the book is a nearly word-for-word copy of a chapter of Steinhoff's "Messerschmitts over Sicily" 1

So this means you guys don’t necessarily have to rely on what they’re able to schedule just by themselves. A great 3rd party map like this may inspire some aircraft by the Devs, or other 3rd parties, or both. My only point was that they’re a small team, and have gone further than just hinting at PTO. In any case more aircraft suitable for the map (if not a whole set at once) will come I’m sure. 3 1
LLv44_Mprhead Posted December 11, 2023 Posted December 11, 2023 From Finnish point of view two planes would be needed: Bristol Blenheim and Brewster B-239. They were both in service already in 1941 and continued to serve until the end of the continuation war in 1944. 2

Yes, a great collection of stuff from wherever it could be found, how they managed to fight and survive with them is an amazing feat in itself, an eclectic collection of all the world had to offer and take it they had to as there was nothing else in many cases. I have made scale models of most of them over the years, mainly the WWII stuff, also some pre and post war and it is to be hoped eventually at least some third-party enthusiast employed by 1C might give some of them a go as collectables for the sim now the map is inbound as I doubt we will get a pure DLC of that theatre any time soon, but we can live in hope. Take care and be safe. Wishing you all the very best, Pete. 2 1
