CountZero Posted December 9, 2023 Posted December 9, 2023 nice to finaly get official info about it, looks good 1
Juri_JS Posted December 9, 2023 Posted December 9, 2023 Let's also post the link for people who don't know the site: https://stormbirds.blog/2023/12/08/exclusive-interview-with-the-il-2-karelia-map-team/ 5 7 2
BMA_FlyingShark Posted December 9, 2023 Posted December 9, 2023 Yeah, looks great, the screenshots and vid of that map are beautiful. Have a nice day. 1
Trooper117 Posted December 9, 2023 Posted December 9, 2023 What a great effort... well done to the team. 2
354thFG_Drewm3i-VR Posted December 9, 2023 Posted December 9, 2023 Looks like it's going to be the prettiest map in the game! 1
Monksilver Posted December 9, 2023 Posted December 9, 2023 Wow! It looks amazing and you can see how much work they must have put in to it. I like the suggested plane list, lets hope we get those to make the most of the map. 1 1
1PL-Husar-1Esk Posted December 9, 2023 Posted December 9, 2023 Great job. Attention to land details is outstanding. 1 2
sevenless Posted December 9, 2023 Posted December 9, 2023 Good news. Hope we get an SP career mode on that map and many collector planes to fit the scenario. 1 4
Drano Posted December 9, 2023 Posted December 9, 2023 I remember when these guys did the map for Aces High. They put a lot of effort into it and it was a great map built for a large scale combined arms scenario with a couple of hundred players per side. Man those were the days! Great to see the Finns are still at it! <S> 2
LLv44_Damixu Posted December 9, 2023 Posted December 9, 2023 Amazing work and dedication! Easily the best looking map in the IL-2 GB and it gets even prettier in the future by adding more details. 1
BMA_FlyingShark Posted December 9, 2023 Posted December 9, 2023 Also, nice to see the typical North European wooden houses and cabins are so well modelled. Makes for a change, not just the map but also the vibe of the area. Have a nice day. 1 1
=HH=Howlin_Mad Posted December 9, 2023 Posted December 9, 2023 Without the planes to actually populate and use the map, seems like a bit of a waste really. I mean, amazing amount of work, but without the tools to actually use the map in the correct scenarios, seems somewhat pointless. I am in no way mocking, or knocking on the work that has been done, but how does this really add to the game? 1
BlitzPig_EL Posted December 9, 2023 Posted December 9, 2023 Can't wait to build some missions on this map. Pity that the Finns won't have the aircraft types that they made work when others failed with them, I.E: Fokker D.XXI, Brewster and Hawk 75. I could use the IAR 80 as a stand in I suppose, with the proper skins. 1 2
Missionbug Posted December 9, 2023 Posted December 9, 2023 Absolutely gorgeous, a true labour of love, congratulations to the whole team for making such a stunning map. The love they bestowed on the map is clear for all to see, it will be a joy to fly over. Take care and be safe. Wishing you all the very best, Pete. 1

Several of the planes that are already in game will fit right onto the map. There's an i-153 coming next year. Who knows what other planes we'll get in the future. Have a nice day. 2
357th_KW Posted December 9, 2023 Posted December 9, 2023 I think it’s also worth noting that many of the aircraft that could help bring Karelia to life (Fokker XXI, Ms406, Hawk 75 etc) would also be great for early 1940 Western front scenarios. And the existing maps we have - Rheinland, Normandy, Western Front - would be perfect for those kind of scenarios if they were tweaked to winter/spring/summer 1940. 1 3

I am in no way mocking, or knocking on the work that has been done, but how does this really add to the game? We've got enough currently to make it good enough. In 1943 the Finnish Air Force had 48 Bf109G-2s and 109 Bf109G-6s. They also had 24 Ju88A-4s. Considerably more in number than the handful of Hawk fighters and 44 B-239s that are commonly associated with their forces. There's a bit more you could do with the one-of captured types that were sometimes operated against the Soviets as well - something that was done and that also resulted in some "friendly fire" situations for the Soviets. cardboard_killer Posted December 9, 2023 Posted December 9, 2023 The map area saw fighting from 1940-44. Unless I'm mistaken, we have a/c for a lot of that period. 1
=gRiJ=Roman- Posted December 9, 2023 Posted December 9, 2023 I wonder if the DEVs will create a new plane set for this map ... 1 1
LLv44_Mprhead Posted December 9, 2023 Posted December 9, 2023 During the battles of summer 1944 there were Bf 109s and Ju 88s from Finnish Air Force and Fw 190 A-6s, F-8s and Ju 87 D-5s from Gefechtsverband Kuhlmey flying on Carelian Isthmus. But ofc it would be nice to have some Winter War and early Continuation War aircraft too. 4 3
percydanvers Posted December 9, 2023 Posted December 9, 2023 Man, I've been reading about the air war over Karelia all weekend, I must have been psychic! This is extremely impressive and I am very, very hyped. 3
JG27_Abaster Posted December 9, 2023 Posted December 9, 2023 After all those *really not satisfying* dev-blog posts and neverending korea-rumors THIS is so much of a relief! I took part in a discussion here some months ago where i said: Tell the untold stories and don‘t try to tackle „dcs-territory“ with jets and stuff…there is so many untold stories yet. Aside from the spanish civil war the finnish-russian conflict is maybe the most interesting to me personally and even it is not tackled by 1CGS directly, it finally is going to become (virtual) reality! I am SO hyped right now that i really do not care about what DLC comes next! I really hope we are going to get some decent and typical planes. Really the day before the stormbirds-blog i postet two youtube videos about that era on our discord-server and i couldn’t believe my eyes first when i then saw it…SO COOOOOL! Thank you guys for that amazing piece of work - hope you can finnish it soon, so i can enjoy it even more! 4 4
MajorMagee Posted December 10, 2023 Posted December 10, 2023 I had been rooting for the Spanish Civil War, but this has plenty of potential for extended development. We can always hope, can't we? 1 1
Jade_Monkey Posted December 10, 2023 Posted December 10, 2023 Great progress, can't wait to see the final results. I hope the team make at least one collector plane for the Finnish side as a token of appreciation to all the work. 4 6

ShamrockOneFive Posted December 10, 2023 Posted December 10, 2023 Yeah a B-239 would fit in brilliantly here! 2 1
CzechTexan Posted December 10, 2023 Posted December 10, 2023 I think the first campaign I ever made for IL-2 1946 was "Swastika in the Gunsight" about Russian pilot Igor Kaberov. It is based on his memoirs of fighting in the Leningrad region. Wow, that was a long time ago! It'll be so great to be able to do the five Sinyavino offensives and also battle for the Ladoga ice road(s)! btw, I vote for a Hawk-75. 2 1
spreckair Posted December 10, 2023 Posted December 10, 2023 28 minutes ago, CzechTexan said: btw, I vote for a Hawk-75. The Hawk-75 would be useful for more than just this region. I would love to play IL-2: Battle of France 1940. 1 3
354thFG_Drewm3i-VR Posted December 10, 2023 Posted December 10, 2023 The Hawk 75 would probably be better than the P-40 in this game...but I'm all for it. 1

tattywelshie Posted December 10, 2023 Posted December 10, 2023 This looks fab! Be interested to know how it’s integrated into the game. Will there be a career mode attached to it I wonder? 1 1
Trooper117 Posted December 10, 2023 Posted December 10, 2023 Can't see them allowing a Finnish career mode really... it would be brilliant to have it though. 1 1
