Hurricane air cleaner purpose

Does it do anything aside from looking cool and slightly slowing you down?

uuuuh... cleans the air?  :(

It was used in environments with lots of sand and dust where fine particles could damage the engine without the air filter installed or closed during takeoff and landing.

Do we have situations in the game where it‘s necessary to have?

No.  There is no reason to use it in the sim.  FOD is not modeled.

Correct, it's like the air filter attachment for the Typhoon (but in that case it would look wrong if it wasn't fitted with it during Normandy operations).

There was a huge push that the devs made to put a bunch of general skins in the game; winter, summer, desert, lend-lease, olive drab, unpainted, early, late. I think that the inclusion of desert skins and the air filter on the Hurricane was because the previous producer wanted to do Malta after Normandy was released. He also confirmed that in said Malta expansion, they would've focused on fleshing out the Italians as a nation.

So who knows, maybe some more aircraft would've gotten air filters from a Malta dev cycle, at this point it's all just hypothetical.

Und die Sowjetunion  hat Hurricane mit den grossen Tropenfiltern erhalten. Gibt es Bilder von, z Bsp. aus dem Murmansker Kampfgebiet.

Also ist es zumindestens nicht verkehrt.

And the Soviet Union received Hurricane with the large tropical filters. Are there pictures from, for example, the Murmansk battle zone. So at least it's not wrong.
