friendlybeard Posted November 21, 2023 Posted November 21, 2023 (edited) Hi All, I have a HP Victus laptop: CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600H. RAM: 16GB GPU: RTX 3050 Windows 11 USB: 3.0 Il-2 runs very well. I've been using IR-tracker but am wondering whether to treat myself to a Meta Quest 2 VR headset. Does anyone know if my laptop can run VR to a decent enough level? I don't want to buy one only to find that it doesn't work, or it's too pixelated or laggy! I am aware that on the Quest 2 website it says 'NVIDIA 3050 (laptop) and 3050ti GPUs are not recommended for use with Link', but I've seen others saying they can make it work - I dunno! Any help would be much appreciated, thanks! Rob Edited November 21, 2023 by friendlybeard more info
354thFG_Drewm3i-VR Posted November 21, 2023 Posted November 21, 2023 (edited) Yes, but it would be a suboptimal experience. The Quest 2 would further exacerbate the situation due to compression losses. Your cpu is also weak for VR. Personally I would say you should upgrade your system to the best and biggest laptop (to draw max TDP and have good cooling) you can tolerate with the latest Intel chip and at least an RTX 4080M to even consider VR. I did VR on a laptop for a while with a Rift S and while it worked (Razer Blade 15, i7-9750H and RTX 2070), the thing got very hot and performance was mediocre at best, even with a PCVR Rift S. If you want to go VR, you should also get the Reverb G2 over a Quest 2/3 for performance (latency) reasons. I couldn't even play single player in VR because of time dilation and the weak 14nm++++ cpu. Edited November 21, 2023 by drewm3i-VR
friendlybeard Posted November 22, 2023 Author Posted November 22, 2023 Thanks so much, Drew, for your detailed reply. Ah poo, was looking forward to messing around with VR this Christmas, but sounds like I'd only be dissapointed! I can't afford a new rig, so I'll stick to IR-Tracker, which works pretty well. Thanks again! 1
354thFG_Drewm3i-VR Posted November 22, 2023 Posted November 22, 2023 Next time you upgrade, you'll be able to do it no problem most likely! 1
