I hope that it's ok, I'm going to post my problem in this forum as well trying to get more views/input. Thx

I haven't started IL-2 1946 in several months. Clicked the desk top icon and get nothing. The Icon is linked to the proper folder, This PC, OS (C:), IL-2 1946. Using WIndows 10 Version 22H2 19045.3693. I'm not sure if the .exe file has the same look to it as it used too. (photo attached)

I've tried clicking on the il2fb icon in the IL-2 1946 folder and still nothing.

Any ideas what is going on? It's worked for nearly 20 years.

Do you have the CD ?

Yes I have the CD, but that doesn't explain the problem.

I've tried to reload the game with the IL-2 1946 CD's and you can't even install the game anymore. The IL-2 Splash Screen pops up with READ ME, INSTALL, START, UNINSTALL and  EXIT. INSTALL is blacked out so you can't choose it. START will not start the game either.

Is this some kind of Windows 10 problem or an Avast problem? My father-in-laws game will not work either.

Thanks, but again that doesn't explain the initial problem.

If I can get IL-2 to reload, how long before it quits working again? What is breaking the link for it too work?

This is most likely why the disc will not install the game again.

Older Disc Games Won't Work On Windows 10

Have you added an exception to your virus software for the il2fb.exe file? If not it is quite possible that an update to your virus software MAY have blocked that executable file from running.

An option to find out if the entire build is corrupt is to copy the entire build onto a thumb drive and then try to run it an an older win 98, 7, or 8 based system. If the build runs from the thumb drive on one of those systems the problem lay with something on your Win10 computer blocking the game from running. Again my first thought goes back to the virus software. If both you and your father-in-law are using the same virus software that makes me believe even more that in some way it is the cause of your problems.

I'm running the free version of Avast. I've added the il2.exe to the Allowed Apps and still nothing.

Have you tried turning Avast off to see if the game will load with it turned off?

Do you have your monitor set to the correct/default resolution?

I uninstalled the game, cleared the registry and tried installing from the disc. The disc loads, but when done there isn't an il2fb.exe file in the IL-2 1946 folder. A search on the computer doesn't find one either. I use Avast and IL-2 1946 is in the exemption folder to allow it.

(Edit: Uninstalled and re-installed with Avast turned off, still no il2fb.exe file.)

Where is the il2fb.exe going or why won't it install?

Additionally, the DirectX 9c cannot be installed as it isn't compatible with Windows 10. I do have Directx 12 installed though.

My monitor is set at 1920x1080 while IL-2's best setting is 1440x1080. I've tried changing the con.ini file to 1920x1080 with no luck and also changing my monitor to 1440x1080, still no luck.

Hi mjfur

saw your initial post regarding 1946, was going to add my 2cents to assist but looks like you have found resolution.

if you wish to try some online MP see  towards the bottom, perhaps we can centralize where some 1946 folks might meet up for some after hours killing , dying, and excessive coffee spillage.

note my eyesignt is notso great soi am slow to read texts.

regards
