ZachariasX Posted November 16, 2023 Posted November 16, 2023 An interesting video by Chris on flying the Me-262: Can I ask for an FM revision on the Me-262 in game? Pitch reaction after throttle input, low dampening effect of the tail and Dutch rolling? 2 3
1CGS LukeFF Posted November 16, 2023 1CGS Posted November 16, 2023 He is Swiss, therefore he is right? ? Just kidding, it's a great video. ?? 3

Art-J Posted November 17, 2023 Posted November 17, 2023 Never was a fan of canopy on this reproduction, which is clearly higher / more bulged compared to wartime originals. The video, however, seems to confirm why I think they made it the way they did. Looks like with modern flight helmet and mask, there's not much space to move head around even in this canopy. I can only imagine how more difficult it would be in original one. Let's hope FHCAM 262 will fly one day and we'll be able to see some comparison vids! 1
AndyJWest Posted November 17, 2023 Posted November 17, 2023 Wing sweepback often contributes to Dutch roll, so given that the Me 262 was originally designed with a straight wing, it isn't that surprising. Probably needs a bigger fin, though that would add weight at the rear, and the CG being too far aft was the reason they swept the wing in the first place. As for pitch effects with throttle movements, I wonder if this might be more noticeable due to the CJ610's in the replica having faster throttle response than the Jumo 004's in the original. Looking at the replica from the perspective of a modern jet pilot may be a little misleading though - a Luftwaffe pilot used to all the torque effects etc of late-model Bf 109s and/or Fw 190s might have been more willing to overlook such things, if they even noticed. They were probably concerned about the temperamental engines than minor aerodynamic quirks.
EAF19_Marsh Posted November 17, 2023 Posted November 17, 2023 Thanks for the video. I've met the presenter and unfortunately he struck me as a bit of an arse.

That, especially given the plane has some narrow speed ranges for safe operation, so the engines better work well.
KodiakJac Posted October 6, 2024 Posted October 6, 2024 (edited) I believe this is the same replica Me-262, so thought I would post it with this existing thread... Me 262 at RIAT-2023 P.S. How do I get the video to play in this thread like the one above? Edited October 6, 2024 by KodiakJac 1
