Quirky Mini Map?

(1) During one-on-one duels when not using AIRCRAFT/OBJECT MARKERS, the MINI-MAP appears erratic, cryptic, and lagging well behind with aircraft positioning.  Could the MINI MAP be modified to aid in real-time navigation while in the "no markers" mode?  Possibly, just displaying the user's aircraft and working fluidly?  (2) When flying a HISTORICAL MISSION in the "no markers" mode, it would be helpful if the MINI MAP could be displayed, showing the user's current position; the grid chart isn't detailed enough for tactical pilotage in my opinion.  DISCLAIMER:  If no one else is having these problems, then it's most likely another shortcoming of my own computer's marginal graphic capability (HP24 all-in-one).  (3) QUESTION:  What is the exact scale of the grid chart?  It would be nice if the scale were annotated on the chart.
