Is it possible to assign 2 joysticks at the same time for controlling planes?

I tried to connect an Alpha Flight Yoke and Warthog Joystick at the same time for using them in IL2, so I can fly bombers and fighters without having to disconnect them and restart IL2 allover every time I want to change the input device. But it seems there can only be one joystick at the time be recognized, if I connect both, only Flight Yoke is working, if I disconnect Flight Yoke, the (connected) joystick won't be recognized. I have to start IL2 again and then joystick is working again.

So it seems there can only be one joystick input device recognized by the game? I have mapped both in key mappings menu, joystick is joy_2 and flight yoke is joy_3, they are both recognized and mapped, but only one at a time seems to work as main input device for all planes.

You can make separate control profiles for different aircraft. Have you tried that?

No, where can I find this? I usually press esc and go to key mappings or "options" in start menu and then "key mappings" but this also seems to set global settings only.

There you go, it's explained in the video recorded when the feature was getting implemented. Second half of it, but I recommend watcing the whole thing anyway:
