69th_Mobile_BBQ Posted November 4, 2023 Posted November 4, 2023 Integrate single player QMB pre-built scenario selection template as a QMB for co-op servers. No further mission building needed. Pre-built scenarios from single player QMB selectable by server host. This would make selecting scenarios for co-op groups much easier. Load players, select mission, go. This could also encourage more multiplayer co-op minded players to set up servers for friends as the hassle of building your own missions or downloading someone else's, and seeing if it's what you're looking for, would pretty much be negated. All scenarios in the already available single player QMB would already be there. This might encourage players of IL-2, FC and TC that would rather do co-op with friends to become more-regular players, keeping them flying more and engaging more with the community. There's a lot of players who fly single player only because they don't want to deal with open multiplayer but would probably love to join their friends regularly to hang out on the voip of their choosing, and do PvE sorties. I think that the single player QMB mission builder already has this. Making it compatible as a basic co-op mission selector would get a lot more people into the action. This could be good all-around for IL-2 and the community in general. 1 1
CountZero Posted November 4, 2023 Posted November 4, 2023 its posible to make co-ops quickly with Vanders mission generator, i think game is missing Hyperlobby type of thing where you could have chat df and coop servers listed and so on... in HL you could see ppl joing on coop mission that is planed to be run, you could ask whats gona be run you could ask for specific missions to be run and so on... it was simple and it was working at same place you had DF type servers, i remenber while i would wait for m8s or server to get free slot, i would look at coops as place to join for quick 20-30min mission before slot opend up, here you do not know how many ppl are waiting for joining df servers and as its all separate you dont even see coops that are planed to be run... Vaders mission generator solves problem of bad mission maker game have, but they still have bad lobby, so normaly you dont have mutch ppl trying it out, and coop is steping stone fromSP to DF MP, so then you have less new ppl in MP as they have to expiriance first MP actions on servers with 10+ years veterans, and SP guys usealy are not prepared to be fighting them from start.
69th_Mobile_BBQ Posted November 5, 2023 Author Posted November 5, 2023 Regardless of whether 3rd party programmers have made an app or if things aren't currently capable in the IL-2 program itself, I still say that if 1c could make this an in-game feature, it's money on the table just waiting for them to take. Co-op that's easy to generate does not necessarily mean that it's a "stepping stone" to dogfight multiplayer. Some player groups might prefer to setup PvE scenarios to learn to fly together. Some players would probably just be happy with stomping the AI with friends. Just because it's co-op doesn't mean that players who have no interest in open PvP suddenly have to have an interest in open PvP to use the co-op feature. Even so, it might get some strictly single players to join co-op groups and connect with new people or even eventually trying DF MP with their group and a bit of teamwork experience also.
Charon Posted November 6, 2023 Posted November 6, 2023 Each of the different mission generators (PWCG, EMG, AQMB) has a slightly different flavor, sometimes I find myself getting tired of one. Having more options for co-op quick missions would be great. 1

I'm not saying that this QMB template would be the be-all, end-all of co-op mission generation but, it would be a good baseline as the non-3rd-party application alternative. My opinion on modern games is that too much gets left to 3rd party programmers to add, or fix, features that should be built into the vanilla game. Sure, some modding could and should enhance any game, but there are times when base game should already have the features or, in hindsight, build them into the game at a later time.
Quickhats Posted November 20, 2023 Posted November 20, 2023 I was just going to post a thread about this. Having easy CO-OP that doesn't require a terrible hosting setup would bring so many people to this game and it's exactly what my friend and I are looking to play. If every time we try to host a game, IL-2 crashes, then it's poorly implemented. 1
