JediMaster Posted November 3, 2023 Posted November 3, 2023 I don't know if there's any log files I can provide to help debug this. After creating a couple of WWII missions with the La-5F successfully with zero issues, I tried creating a WW1 mission with the HD.1 and 17GBR. I picked Upper France map, Messines front, default date 7/6/1917 with La Gorgue and Helesmes as the two airfields. Cirrus/light/late afternoon if that matters, 4 each of HD.1 as lead and 17GBR as escort on intercept against 3 C.V and 3 Halb DII as escorts bombing an encampment. Button says "Generating..." in blue forever. It's not frozen, I can go through the tabs and click on the folder selectors and everything. It has not created any files in the MP folder, though, and I have to close it to make the button go back to black "Create Mission." I can close and reopen the program and then click the create button again and it does it again. I haven't yet tried changing up planes/numbers/maps/dates/whatever in case there are any specific debug steps I should take.

If you encounter this again, can you upload the config.ini file and the mission_generator.log files here? Put them in a zip then you can easily attach them.

I have created 2 similar missions with these settings: test-1917-HD4-intercept.zip EMG config ini.zip I can' test the mission because I don't own the HD4. 2 general suggestions concerning the issue "Generating..." stays blue forever: if you have this issue: -For Bombing / Attack missions Do not choose Target Distance Random or Intermediate. Choose Target Distance Close or Distant (but distant target will lead to too long missions due to very slow WW1 plane speeds) -For Bombing / Attack missions choose Targets per side 1 (easier for EMG to find at least 1 target in the specified distance) General Note: Targets per side 2 for Intercept missions or more has sometimes the disadvantage, that the first target of your intercept flight could be the 2nd or 3rd target of the bombing AI flight. This is no problem if you are the flight leader and you use plane icons on the map. But if you are just a wingman you will maybe miss the enemy flight. (But maybe this issue has been already fixed in the current v79 release) Edited November 4, 2023 by kraut1
SYN_Vander Posted November 4, 2023 Posted November 4, 2023 Yeah, I already created a config myself, but even if I choose 5 objectives I can't recreate the bug. I have run it a lot of times now. I would like to see the log file...
SYN_Vander Posted November 5, 2023 Posted November 5, 2023 Finally was able to reproduce I think. It's a pretty edge case unless there is more going on. This happens if you choose multiple targets. EMG will then randomly select other target types besides the main target that fit in the chosen scenario. Then it will loop through all targets and randomly select a target location and will then -to avoid having targets overlapping- remove other possible target locations in a range of 7km around that target. If will do so for every target type. If the last target is for instance an airfield then it's possible that there are no possible locations left as all possible locations have already been removed due to other targets in the vicinity. Usually this is never a problem, but for airfields there are only so many locations. I will reduce the minimum distance between targets to 5 km and I will add some more airfield targets (and look for other targets with few locations) 1
JediMaster Posted November 7, 2023 Author Posted November 7, 2023 (edited) Sorry, been slammed lately and unable to check back. I can confirm I had 2 targets set and intermediate as AI flight distance. The player flight was close. This was a coop mission with the allied side only as player, not both or axis. So I have changed it to 1 target and close for both sides with no other changes to what I listed above. Doing just that resulted in "generating" lasting less than 5 seconds before switching to "resaving" and then eventual success. Looks like you did indeed pinpoint the cause.
