Key Bindings Scrambled after Recalibration (Virpil CM3)

I use a VKB Gunfighter and Virpil CM3 Throttle. 

 

The CM3 is split into 3 virtual devices to get IL2 to handle the large number of buttons. 

 

It works fine (except for the issue I posted regarding intermittent button failure) except if I have to recalibrate the throttle it screws up device assignments in IL2. 

 

I suspect what is happening is that Virpil calibration generates new virtual device numbers. e.g. Flaps may have been on Device 1 but after calibration Flaps are now on device 2 BUT Il2 still thinks they are on Device 1. 

 

When I go into IL2 after a recalibration I get a dialogue saying it has found a new device and offers to update binding (or something like that). I have tried accepting and rejecting all options and nothing seems to work.

 

The only fix I have found is to edit the device numbers in the config file but its a PITA to work out which number does what and some of it has to be trial and error. 

 

Has anyone else come across this, is there a way to stop it happening or a better fix?
