weirdowkooiw00 Posted October 21, 2023 Posted October 21, 2023 I wonder if the war 1 planes have brakes. When I try the brakes in the game Flying Circus or ROF nothing happend.
AndyJWest Posted October 21, 2023 Posted October 21, 2023 Nope, no brakes. Once the tail is on the ground holding full up elevator will slow the aircraft down a little, which sometimes helps.

Avimimus Posted October 21, 2023 Posted October 21, 2023 There is an exception from that era (I can't quite remember it right now), but the truth is that a lot of aircraft in the mid-1930s were designed without brakes!
Avimimus Posted October 21, 2023 Posted October 21, 2023 It looks like some Sopwiths (usually larger prototypes), some Bréguets, and mid-war German two-seaters were particularly likely to carry brakes. In some cases they were wheel brakes, in others they were drag or claw brakes (working directly against the ground). Some designs even carried air-brakes. Spoiler Interestingly, some DFW C.V were equipped with claw brakes. P.S. What I stated earlier is true though - from 1908 onward there were experiments with brakes, and some WWI aircraft were produced with them (although they were sometimes later removed), but there are many designs into the 1930s which lack wheel brakes.
1CGS LukeFF Posted October 21, 2023 1CGS Posted October 21, 2023 Among all the aircraft that were ultimately made for RoF, only the Sopwith Strutter had air brakes. All the others, nada.
