dburne Posted October 21, 2023 Posted October 21, 2023 (edited) CIX on X: "Holy crap Pico is shutting down. “According to the latest news on October 20, according to relevant people to EuqalOcean, the person in charge of PICO recently went to Singapore to report to Zhang Yiming's work. The feedback was that ByteDance will gradually give up the PICO…" / X (twitter.com) If true and I emphasize if, not good news for the VR Industry. Edited October 21, 2023 by dburne
1PL-Husar-1Esk Posted October 21, 2023 Posted October 21, 2023 What, did they not annacunced new hmd like 3 of them?
=MERCS=JenkemJunkie Posted October 21, 2023 Posted October 21, 2023 It wouldn't surprise me, the main selling point of the Pico 4 was that it was the first headset in it's price range to have pancake lenses, but otherwise the headset had lots of design and QC issues in both it's hardware and software. Now that other headsets are starting to have pancake lenses, it takes away that advantage, and I'd be really skeptical of future headsets from them, even if their paper specs seem impressive based on how much they screwed up on Pico 4.
