percydanvers Posted October 19, 2023 Posted October 19, 2023 I pretty much only use them for historical mission reenactment. In every other respect the 1000lb bombs seem far superior, or am I just not getting something?
BlitzPig_EL Posted October 19, 2023 Posted October 19, 2023 Rockets in the sim are as ineffective as they were in the real deal. 2

Hoss Posted October 19, 2023 Posted October 19, 2023 All the time..... but it takes practice and discipline. 1
357th_KW Posted October 19, 2023 Posted October 19, 2023 The problem is that bombs are wildly more effective for fighter bombers then they were in real life, since you can safely and reliably drop them from nearly zero feet. 2 3

I think in reallity AP rockets were used to sink ships and were more effective, but the game damage system isn't compatible with this type of rockets in the game so they are useless. =MERCS=JenkemJunkie Posted October 19, 2023 Posted October 19, 2023 It depends on what kind of target you're going for. Bombs are better for anything you cant reliably kill with one rocket launch, or if you can kill multiple targets with the bomb blast. If you're going after spread out targets that you can one shot then rockets are 4 booms vs 2. Plus theyre much more fun than bombs, the targets blow up in your face rather than behind you.
jeanba Posted October 19, 2023 Posted October 19, 2023 Rockets need a lot of training, and you need to adjust your gunsight be 1 to 2 degrees (I use 2) Requiem tutorial was very usefull for me:

[CPT]Crunch Posted October 19, 2023 Posted October 19, 2023 Best weapon for airfield attack on the Box, you can take out four major targets instead of two, with greater precision and better ability to dodge flak. You just need lots of practice and know where to set the depression dial for the angles and speeds you normally use. That takes a bit of study and training through practice. I'm always more successful with pair fired HE rockets. Don't forget to zero the dial back out after rockets are gone or when engaging air targets. Wish they would activate the depression dials for some of the older flyables, would help tremendously with bombing and rocket precision. 2 1
senseispcc Posted October 19, 2023 Posted October 19, 2023 Bombs have by far a more destructive power than the 8 rockets, and this is not so realistic in the game. And both are very difficult to use with precision in an opposed situation. never forget that nearly 800 Typhoons were lost during WW2. And rocket were in reality nearly never used in pairs but in one salvo of 8 or 112 or 16. On the other side most bomb mission were done with the 500 lb (ca. 227 kg) bombs not the 1000 ones that restricted the range a lot. But never forget this is only a game.

No, not really. ? Many Typhoon squadrons used 1000-lb bombs as their "regular" ordnance.
AndyJWest Posted October 19, 2023 Posted October 19, 2023 Been posted before, I think, but if we're discussing the use of 1000 lb bombs on Typhoons: ? 2 5
Lusekofte Posted October 20, 2023 Posted October 20, 2023 I love flying the tiffy with rockets. It so cool looking at wingmen release them

The RP-3 60lb is the most effective rocket in game and should be able to take out a substantial portion of a train or road column without needing to overfly it.
blockheadgreen_ Posted October 21, 2023 Posted October 21, 2023 (edited) Some historical audio of some interest and relevance! https://www.iwm.org.uk/collections/item/object/80007681 Utterly insane sounding motor, the high revving prop as it approaches the microphone sounds almost the same as those on the Reno racer P-51s. Lusekofte Posted October 21, 2023 Posted October 21, 2023 The Typhoon was a feared bird in the skies over Europe. They’re pilots brave and had a lot of casualties. They did do a lot of harm and spread fear into its enemy. Kept the movements only going in bad weather and night. They might not have been effective against tanks. But tanks needed infantry and supplies. They was really important 1 1
