You have to either use the default oculus link method that came with the headset or download the open composite in VD beta that's pinned in the OXR Toolkit discord in the oculus-technical channel. The instructions to use the beta are in the pin. I don't know why your reverb wouldn't work though. I have the reverb, oculus and VD stuff all installed at the same time on my computer and I can change in between them no problem. If you use the system wide install for your reverb, that should force open composite over anything else you've been playing with. Looks like open composite will be integrated into VD or I'm wrong? Spoiler *An update on Virtual Desktop XR release** After discussions with the Virtual Desktop developers, we have decided to include Virtual Desktop OpenXR support directly into Virtual Desktop. This means you will not need to install a separate program! Virtual Desktop will have an option to select whether to use SteamVR OpenXR or Virtual Desktop XR. Once the version of Virtual Desktop with integrated OpenXR support is released, you will uninstall the beta software (to avoid having two versions installed). For users interested in using Virtual Desktop XR in Link mode, you will be able to download a standalone version of Virtual Desktop XR. That mode won't be well supported (since the goal is to enable better OpenXR support with Virtual Desktop, and Link already has an OpenXR runtime)! In the meantime I ask you to please be patient just a little bit longer. Distributing the MSI outside of this Discord or building the code yourself **does not help**, it creates confusion, unnecessary noise and it actually slows down development and release for everyone. Bugging developers here and on the Virtual Desktop Discord about "when is it releasing?" **does not help** and it actually makes us grumpy. Thank you. Edited October 19, 2023 by 1PL-Husar-1Esk

Iheve never seen a VD anything. VD = virtual desktop. There's a beta to use open composite in VD pinned in the OXR toolkit discord. If you don't want to mess with beta stuff, it will be officially be added to VD later on, and its probably simpler to stick with using open composite in Oculus link for now. There shouldn't be a need to uninstall anything, I have all the same headsets and programs installed simultaneously as you and it works fine. Oculus link should launch in open composite pretty smoothly though. I use the system wide install for oculus link, then launch the game from the library tab in my headset once connected with oculus link and it launches in open composite. 1 hour ago, 1PL-Husar-1Esk said: Looks like open composite will be integrated into VD or I'm wrong? Yeah, looks like the official version will be more convenient to use than the beta.
Blitzen Posted October 19, 2023 Author Posted October 19, 2023 Ok ...simply put : GB will not start with my current install of Open Composite. It and Clod will apparently only work with Steam VR. Both games are as stated above extremally dark now as apposed "perfect" values with ReverbG2 before installing Beta Quest 3. I have OpenXR tool kit ( but I have no way any more of using it in game - it doesn't show up with a keystroke command so far, but I don't think I have whatever "OXR toolkit discord" is. I have no idea on finding Open Composite in the Oculus link ( which link are you talking about? In fact I have no idea how to open Oculus ( in game? On my desk top?) or in the Oculus Tray tool where might it be ? While I'm at it what other settings should I make while using the tray tool and the current OpenXR tool kit I have( see attachment?) Believe me I really feel stupid, but I'd really like to keep Quest 3 and am very frustrated just trying to make what seems like a simple change in the appearance of the images in game.. So should I keep VD at this point and continue to play games as they are, and wait for new version of Open Composite, since my version doesn't work for now? Or sadly send everything back and try to get my ReverbG2 back where it used to be? Please make it all be better....
=MERCS=JenkemJunkie Posted October 19, 2023 Posted October 19, 2023 Everyone gets frustrated with VR, its a mess. Oculus link is the program Alonzo posted in the first reply on this thread. Its just the oculus version of Virtual Desktop. You said you had that working in steam earlier, so just use the system wide install for open composite with the switcher, then launch oculus link and GB the same way you did to get it working in steam earlier, and that should be it. Don't worry about open composite in VD, the official version is launching soon, and will be much smoother to work with.

" This suggestion /pathway is a mystery to me- but if you walk me through it ,I'd like to try once again.?
=MERCS=JenkemJunkie Posted October 19, 2023 Posted October 19, 2023 If you re-read the thread from the beginning the steps are all there. If that doesn't work, I don't know what your problem is, and you'll just have to wait for the virtual desktop open composite patch, or maybe someone else knows.
Blitzen Posted October 20, 2023 Author Posted October 20, 2023 I just can't seem to figure out what this means: . You have to either use the default oculus link method that came with the headset or download the open composite in VD beta that's pinned in the OXR Toolkit discord in the oculus-technical channel (?) Everything works just fine in Quest3 except I cannot get either Open Composite to work ( as stated elsewhere ,) or OXR Tool kit to appear in game to affest ( effect?) tha valur changes to make sim playablr again. Just how do I do a system wide 9re) install of my trusty Reverb now that I think I've figured how to get sound back. BTW here are how images appear in Qust3 play:
Blitzen Posted October 20, 2023 Author Posted October 20, 2023 Hold on - could this be the problem of not starting it in game: failing to pay attention to use ( or uncheck this option in picking which key(s) to start and use in game? 1

I did mess with Oculus Debug Tool and others. But given that I've spent $650 on a headset, $100 on a router, $thousands on Virpil gear, a monster PC, and a 4080, I'm happy to spend the $20 on Virtual Desktop and get a quality piece of software with lots of options and a lively support Discord to back it up. Your comment couraged me to give VD a new try, ( especially since there were some updates since I used it last time ) To my surprise, after some fiddling around, I now get a better image in VD compared to my "ODT/OTT setup with Airlink". And of course, VD is easier to handle and more convenient. The general trick for me is to play with sharpening ( I use low sharpening in VD + sharpening ON in IL2 ) and instead of taking VD "Ultra or Godlike" rather take "High" and combine it with MSAAx4. Adjusting Gamma a little now gives me wonderful colors. So I now have some headroom for framerates in complex scenes and quite a beautyful picture. A 4090 maybe could give me "GodLike + MSAA + enough headroom for framerates" but my 4080 cant handle this. @Blitzen - VirtualDesktop is an App you have to buy in the Quest Store. The VD app in Steam is another Topic. Do not mixup ! - Your dark image imho is simply from a gamma value that's too low. You can adjust this in VD or also in IL2 itself,. Also you should use HDR in IL2 settings and (imho) disable SSOA. - Even my (older) QuestPro is way better than a HP Reverb. I had a HP before. I really wonder your Quest3 doesnt well ( though only 'standard' LED and no QLED like QuestPro is a clear disadvantage ) So in my opinion it's a "settings problem".
