dgiatr Posted October 14, 2023 Posted October 14, 2023 (edited) Hello to all! Can anybody inform me whats the current situation of motion simulators today? Does anybody has any information about Yaw2 kickstarter or Dof p5? Where can i find them in Europe? Are they il2 compatible? Is it a better choice to built a DIY one or finally it will come up the same cost as buying one of the above? Do i really need larger pitch or roll or yaw deviation for VR use only like Yaw2 offers or am i ok with DOF? Which of the two Yaw2 or Dof h5 or p5 is more durable for hard daily use for a large person? Does Dof 5p or 5h gives better flight feeling with its 5 degrees of motion or its better to buy Yaw2 with larger deviations but with only 3 degrees of motion? I have heard that Dof has a mininum of 0.8 sec delay for each reaction. Does this issue has already been fixed or not? Thank in advance? Edited October 14, 2023 by dgiatr 1
Charlo-VR Posted October 14, 2023 Posted October 14, 2023 Yaw 2 is very slowly being updated and manufactured, and they just started calling the latest iteration the Yaw 2.5. Kickstarter backers like me are second behind new purchasers at the current higher price. There is a vibrant, active support community on Discord at https://discord.gg/t3Rjbv6G . I honestly don’t know when I might get my Yaw 2, and it has been a full two years after trying one out at the flight sim expo in San Diego in 2021. I can be so patient because I find my current Next Level Racing Motion Platform V3 a very immersive experience in IL-2. I don’t have room in my gaming space for anything larger than the Yaw 2. 1

Thank you for your reply Charlo-VR! How are you happy with NLR, arent pitch , roll and yaw movements very small for a flight simulator since this is a dedicated car simulator motion platform? Are your rudder pedals and joystick on that platform or not? How long do you have to wait for yaw2 to get it in your hands? Thank you again... Edited October 14, 2023 by dgiatr
Airborne-1980 Posted October 14, 2023 Posted October 14, 2023 Hello, I've owned a DOF H3 for about 4 years now. It's really fun with IL 2, especially with the upgraded SFU gear box ( still a bit of jolts sometimes, but it might be my setup in SRS ) I'm 103kg, pretty heavy with about 20kg extra of seats and equipement, and the motors are remaining cool even after a couple hours of intense skirmishes.I have used it a lot, almost daily. The important thing is to balance it well. DOF has been good with support. For the pitch and yaw, I find that they are good enough in the H3. I barely use the roll as I use rate instead of angle. I think the response time is mostly good and when you're in a fight, this concern disapear completely ( at least for me) I went for the H3, because I could customize it depending on the sim I fly, wich seemed pretty limited with the Yaw2, but I might be wrong.

Thank you Airborne-1980 for your informations! Do you think dof 5h deserves the extra money to pay in comparison to dof 3h or its better to buy dof 3p in order to achieve better durability and better reaction times of its movements? I am talking exclusively for il2 nothing else..
Airborne-1980 Posted October 14, 2023 Posted October 14, 2023 (edited) Well, I've never tried the H6, so I can't say anything about it. I just know that the range of motion is better and might simulate turbulence a bit better. I went for the H3 because DOFsaid it was good enough for consumer use. If the P3 is better with reaction time, I would go for the P3 then. I only fly VR and to me, just a hint of motion is enough to maintain immersion. The harder I go in the settings, the more I feel out of sync with the machine if it makes sense. This is what I meant by being able to customize ( see pic attached ) Edited October 14, 2023 by Airborne-1980

The NLR platform is more commonly and jokingly referred to as a “buttmover”, but it’s enough to make flying in VR much more enjoyable. I also have a HF8 tactile seat pad and a Buttkicker Gamer, which also contributes to the experience. My joystick and throttle are mounted on the motion platform, but my rudder pedals are not. If I ever receive my Yaw 2 I expect that to be an even better experience since the rudder pedals will also move with the Yaw 2. My Kickstarter number is in the 600s and they are still delivering to the first 100 backers, as near as can be determined. However, folk buying a Yaw 2 at full price are receiving theirs within weeks, I think.
Airborne-1980 Posted October 14, 2023 Posted October 14, 2023 Totally agree with Charlo-vr. Buttkicker or pad seat bring so much to the experience, I can't fly without it. 1 hour ago, dgiatr said: Oups!!!!very nice situation you have there my friend...hope you enjoy your nice rig!!!! Thanks! It took me a long time to bring my overall flight sim experience to where I wanted it. Lots of frustration and patience but it was well worth it.
C6_lefuneste Posted October 14, 2023 Posted October 14, 2023 Hello, have a look here : https://www.mysimkit.fr/accueil/ I had the chance to test it, it is really good. I was not alone to test, all people were convinced. But it was in DCS I do not know if it support Il2, I did not ask.

Thank you C6_lefuneste for your recomendation, i have already visit the link you propose but i dont think i can spend so much money to that project... I am also thinking a DIY solution since i am not in a rush for a motion simulation platform spending wonderful time with my G2 Hp for now. I could proceed to the next immersion level builiding some haptic shaker for my seat. Searching the net i also found this... https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/diy-motion-simulator-vr-cockpit-project-universal-modular-controls-737-inspired-pendular-yoke-throttles-ga-props-joystick-hotas-heli-collective-cyclic-gear-switchboxes-dual-encoders/567101 What do you think, is it possible to work with Il2 or not?

I’d rather you create your own post and give proper information in there instead of shilling in a general motion platform thread. 1

I do not know...if you want to build your own kit, I think the first question is the software you want to use to drive it...You will have to tune movements to match your feeling...There are different way to fool your brain to make it feel move, especially as you will not be able to reproduce real movements with a motion sim. Beware of reactivity also, if movements are delayed you will be very sick.
