What I do not like

If there is one thing I do not like is the scripted campaigns that one has to complete one mission before moving to the next one and even worse the ones I have purchased No more purchasing campaigns for me.

It feels like a Xbox game you have to finish mission one to move on and I have purchased the whole campaign.

I do not want to spend my life trying to complete a mission I thought the idea of combat flight sim game were to have fun not spending each evening trying to complete mission one.

I thought that was the whole idea behind the scripted games.  They follow a script, usually based on an historical air battle.

If you want a workaround - rename the mission you failed and the campaign will then skip it.

If you don't like buying the campaigns, there's ALOT of free ones:

Cats. I do not like cats.

Regarding the "issue" you talk about, this is indeed the whole idea of scripted campaigns as SYN_Mike77 already said. To fly along with some squadron and their missions, for better or for worse. And like the pilots of a century ago, to be unsure about what the next mission brings.

The fact that you can only play a later mission after you've already completed the previous ones enables the mission writer to make the whole thing somewhat story-based. What this actually translates into depends on the campaign and its writer. Some try to give it a personal touch and include all kinds of dialogue with various characters, some give a somewhat factual statement of what happened to the squadron in the meantime, and yet others tell of the ground war below.

Note that it's always possible to re-play previous missions, so after you've finished a campaign you're free to fly whichever mission you liked most, or conversely to never again fly those you didn't like.

If you're stuck on a certain mission, note that it's pretty commonplace for mission writers to have some kind of "fail safe" mission completion logic. E.g. the mission always completes when you return to base, no matter if you achieved any of your objectives or not. Often these "mission complete" triggers are linked to returning to base after flying a while (certain time or certain distance), or reaching a certain point on the map. You can (ab)use this to skip a mission by just flying around and ignoring all enemies until the "mission complete" has triggered. As soon as the "Finish Mission" button on the escape screen is green instead of red when you click it, you'll be able to proceed to the next mission.

Alternatively, let us know what campaign/mission it is that you're talking about. All scripted campaign writers are active on the forum, and they may be able to give you advice.
