David_4555 Posted September 27, 2023 Posted September 27, 2023 I come up with a lot of weird paint scheme ideas in my head, so I figured i'd try and "draw" some of them and post them here, in case one of them catches the eye of any of our talented skinners. All of these are completely fictional, although it could be said they have some loose tie to reality. I'll start with two rather similar ideas. I'll update the thread when I get inspiration again. - Hurricane Mk I, RRAF. The RRAF operated a small number of Hurricanes during the opening stages of Operation Barbarossa. They were however retired from service about a year into the conflict due to the lack of spare parts. However, since Romania changed sides in August 1944, one could imagine that the Soviets, eager to let go of their stocks of parts for these obsolete Hurricanes acquired via lend-lease, would give them to Romania in order to refurbish their Hurries, perhaps even supplying Soviet armament in order to upgrade/complement the .303 machine guns, with ShVaK cannons and/or rockets for example. This is certainly an optimistic outcome since even though they were fighting together, they still hated each other and often attacked one another. The paint scheme shown here is based on late IAR-80/81 fighters, with the red prop hub based on Allied Romanian 109's. - Captured Fw-190D-9, RRAF. Not much to say here, and Ex-Luftwaffe Dora, originally finished in a late-war brown and silver camouflage, hastily re-painted to some extent. I used blueprints found online in order to draw over them, all rights belong to their creator(s).
David_4555 Posted December 24, 2023 Author Posted December 24, 2023 Another one - Bf-109G-6 early, Imperial Japanese Air Force. Not real, obviously, although the Japanese did receive a small number of Bf-109E-7's and a single Fw-190A-5 for evaluation (along with a Me-210, and others). This is basically Bf-109G-6/Ha-1112 FMBB, registration D-FMBD, Hangar 10 Collection (see spoiler), with Japanese markings. Excuse my terrible drawing skills. The profile depicts a K-4 as I modified a K-4 for ease, but it is meant to be a G-6 early. None of the profiles are mine, all rights belong to their authors. Spoiler
David_4555 Posted February 23, 2024 Author Posted February 23, 2024 I shouldn't be allowed near a computer with paint.net installed... Spitfire Mk. IXE, Yellow 6 "Balauru' ", pilot unknown, Grupul 9 Vânătoare, Hungary, July 1945. This Lend-Lease aircraft was offered to the Romanians to compensate for high losses suffered against the Luftwaffe in late 1944. Indeed, the Soviets viewed the worn-out Spitfires as outdated compared to their newer types. Dark grey fuselage with light gray and green camouflage waves, white fuselage band, wingtips and engine underside. Red spinner. 9th FG badge on the engine cowling. White crown above the fuselage roundel. White "Balauru' " text underneath the cockpit. Upperside of the engine cowling painted black, up to the cockpit. 5 white kill marks near the rudder. Completely fictionnal of course. Blueprint copyright: Dr Dan Saranga.
