I'm leaning towards Korea as well; during BoB development, there was a lot of effort the team put in to properly building "jet engine tech" with the Me-262...plus a Korean expansion would be a fantastic springboard for introducing carrier ops down the road (Panthers, Skyraiders, Corsairs).

Focusing solely on carrier operations (landing, take-offs, etc), ship formations, etc., without getting too bogged down in also trying to develop naval engagements, which were pretty much non-existent in the Korean War theatre...now in the Pacific? That's another story all together. Makes for smaller technological steps. My $0.02.

Yea actually that is a good point plus they can add maybe the Mig-15 and the F-86 separately as collectors to see how people could respond to having more jets.

I'd say it's going to be something with Russian aircraft in it...

Lmao tbh North Korea is a interesting air force to look into.  Depending where the map may be we could add some Chinese aircraft in to it too.

An F-86 vs Mig 15 matchup  with the AI under same constraints as the human pilot could be more immersive than what's present ATM in DCS .

I'm in for Korea just for the late prop aircraft that we rarely see accurately modeled.

La 11

Yak 9P

IL 10

Tu 2

Sea Fury

Firefly

F-82 Twin Mustang

Skyraider

A(B) 26

Late Corsair

Hell, the jets are just (very thin) icing on the cake.

There could be some more icing too, as don't forget, 'get to the chopper!', LOL.

Happy landings,

If it is Korea and DCS would make the step to a Vietnam map it would be heaven on earth for me!

But I would still play IL-2 GB as really great WWII combat sim. Playing all the time the same is boring, so I change frequently, not only between games (IL-2GB and DCS), but also between theaters of war.

I am only multiplayer and here IL-2 GB has much more to offer than DCS. Whatever the next game will be, I hope GB wasn't a dead end for many years to come.

How dare they not make an announcement before they make their announcement!

Ah, a very similar thing happened recently I believe, with a flight sim which is quite similar to IL2 didnt it? With people getting angry because an announcement was made about an announcement, but then the announcement wasn’t announced, and then everyone got fed up about the announcement not being announced, and then when the announcement finally got announced, people still weren’t happy, because it wasn’t the announcement they wanted.

I think the issue was more that announcments tend to be exciting showcases whereas that one was more akin to a a bad piece of fan fiction.

I'm 44, so I was used to play games that didn't even had patches and improvements and when the product was published, it was the final product and of course we didn't have previous info about it.

Well, I'm 63 and I remember when the only flight sim was...Pong.  But fully I agree with your post.

You mean you never ran around the school playground with your arms outstretched, shouting "dakka dakka dakka"?

That was real flight simulation. Sound effects, G forces, and a real risk of going into a spin getting tripped up and going home with a war wound...

I was 4'3. My mates were all 4'7. unbalanced and unrealistic flight modelling ruined it for me.

My thought was Korea could also open up some Chinese Civil war theaters with Yaks, MiG-9s and P-38s.

It would also have some overlap with IL-2 Manchuria from back in the day with I-16s and A5M4s fighting it out

The pacific/asian theatre is usually neglected in combat flight sims sadly, in all eras

To each his own, but I get exactly opposite impression. Some form of re-use of previous assets (mostly 3D models I presume)- sure, but backwards compatibility - nah, doesn't look like it to me. Just like nowadays - we do see RoF planes being refreshed and re-used in FC, but these sims still remain separate products.

It is what my spidersenses told me when I read the words "new sim", instead of "new module" or something, at the end of the news.

I think, Enigma's Video is responsible also for this discussion here.

Under his video I commented this:

Quote

Man, servers!

You mentioned you hopped in during beginning of Covid. I started in 2017 and there was a server even better than TAW and Finnish combined. It went down in May 2019 :( due to the one-man-show of the server operator. Wont mention the name, as I think, my reputation for the love of this down server may be seen greatly, if you scroll back in time in the forums.

Anyway, nowadays the game becomes a dogfight simulator only. There are only few servers which are playable and to be honest - they are not that good either. Nor Finnish is realistic and certainly not the warm up server called Wings of Liberty. You want to play exclusivly only on Rheinmald / Normandy ? Go than for Combat Box. You want P38 Lightnings over Stalingrad and a ground target cluster with tank garages? Go than for Finnish. You want to never fly with your buddies together? Play on TAW, if you get a seat there. On which server, beside on TAW (all 2-3 months if you are lucky and the crew did not just split up) can you fly during night - at cloud overcast of 400m during a snow storm? Nowhere, right?

Where is Air Marshal project?
Where are recon flights and recon planes?
Drop tanks?
Different fuel tanks switches?
Mine shells?

Flying the old prop planes is more than just a sunny safari without clouds. Its more than dogfighting. Ground attackers and bombers did not got big love - not from the devs, not from the server creators. There are no events, not a dedicated very good server from the developers, in fact - they should care with such a MP server for the community.

Yes, some of Han's or Luke's answers pointed in some direction, and many players speaking about the lack of communication from the devs.

I think, the lack of good servers is also responsible for the felt drop out of many players, as I stated in my own quotation.

If, from the publisher/developer side there would be some events regularly, like TAW or something - that could draw people back too.

Thats only mei 50 Pfennig about that topic....

Greetings and S!

You’re laughing at us aren’t you? ? Can you give us a clue then, just to humour us a bit? Has anyone, in any of the numerous threads guessed correctly yet about where the new game will be based?

He already did, just a few posts up.

If I say more than I have, Han will drop a nuclear bomb on me, and I don't want that to happen.

Nuclear bomb = B-29 = Korea

Thats basicly me, hearing nothing new from the devs....

Beside that, you guys can pump out newer stuff....and maybe you will deliver (IAR?), but in a MP or SP world for that matter, without immersive context (aka - recon flights, drop tanks, mine shells, 4-engine planes* ect.) people will eventually lose interest.

*just add another to a Ju52 and dont tell its not possible....

No Nuclear bomb in Korea, late war Japan yes.

Nuke + B-29 = Dr. Love

ROFL, guys, the "dropping a nuke" comment hearkens back to the days of RoF testing. If we were screwing something up in testing or missed something obvious, Han would post a giant, wide-angle shot of a nuclear explosion as part of his response. ? It was all meant in good fun, of course. ?

Me too but only by a couple of years.

Part of me thinks even though unlikely that it is the Pacific. And they kept it quiet cause well there is another company starting up doing it as well.

But again I am sure that is highly unlikely. If it was there would be a lot of very surprised folks in here.

Early Korea makes sense and can be exciting with the franchise going into some early jets.

So are they just modifying  existing code to continue the franchise or are they starting all over with all new code for a new game.

Did you jump from the swing when you had to bale out? We got yelled at by the teachers monitoring the playground for jumping, so getting shot down was fraught with actual danger.

It's gotta be Korea, which isn't super interesting however if the changes/improvements made apply to the other titles as well, than that is something worth getting excited over. For me, I would love to see the Pacific, Italy, or something truly unique and beautiful. Western and Eastern Fronts have been done ad nauseum and what we have here (if improved) would satisfy our interest in these theaters for years to come IMO.

And hopefully if it is Korea, we'll get some planes that work in WW2 settings like the A-26, F4U-4, Yak-3 etc
