If taken very literally, then yes, they're not part of the Pacific Ocean "proper" so wouldn't exclude Korea. Just as strictly speaking, "it will still be this piston engined combat planes [sic]" doesn't exclude Korea either. However, a "piston-engine themed combat flight sim not taking place in the pacific" wouldn't exactly be my wording of choice to describe a Battle of Korea game/module.

 

To say Korea is in the Pacific Ocean is about the same as saying Italy is in the Atlantic. It's semantics and riddles, yes.

 

Also as you know, IL2 is a piston engine sim as opposed to having "glass" cockpits, radar, and missiles. It does have a couple of jets at this point. Korea would still be stick and rudder flying while shooting cannons and machine guns with a piece of bubble gum stuck to the windscreen when your reflector sight burns out. That's the fundamental appeal of WWII sims after all. Once you are in combat, all you have to do is chase or be chased and pull the trigger when they are in front of you. Whether you are flying a Sabre against a Mig15 or a Mustang against a Yak 9 it would still be a continuation of the same thing.

 

It only adds to the suspense and drama, haha.

For sure they wouldn't just have thrown out a project because a far-away competition has appeared, and one can imagine they could create this smoke curtain of sorts. 

 

However by now I may just be outside the realm of brainstorming, right into 'overthinking' land by this point.

Or to them like to anyone PTO means ww2 Pacific campaign and nothing els... do history refers to Korea, Vietnam or Taiwan strait crissis as PTO events or when ppl say PTO they mean WW2 part of war that took place in Asia. Il-2 Pacific Fighters game had maps that some would say oh their Aisan land not Pacific, but still ppl knew that when you say PTO or Pacific ww2 its ment everything in Asia during ww2, its generalised like that.

So they said directly that it won't be the pacific, then? Have they really, though? All this comms hazyness of late... I am not sure about anything anymore. But I do find it interesting that this secrecy intensified after jason left. Again, I am not willing to die fighting in this argument's hill, but I wouldnt be surprised if this is just corporate tactics, necessary because a PTO game was already in the works when Jason left.

They’re going to do something fairly in their wheel-house as to not over-burden themselves given the scope of overall development. They’re going to set themselves up for success. They’re going to do something “completely different” yet within their short term capability on the research front, that they know they can deliver.

(that doesn’t mean early Japanese army aircraft) They’re going to do something widely marketable to Russian and western players (that doesn’t mean liberation of Poland)

While IL2 is focused on prop planes, we have made may be the one of the best steps in tank combat simulation as side-project.

 

So... I am not hinting at anything, but there are no principal limitations or barriers in our game engine and graphics engine to evolve it for something like "F-35 versus Su-57" or "Wings over Vietnam", or even for round-world modelling, or riding your Harley to the airbase and walking around your plane and checking its insides, talking to technicans, and other pilot-RPG features we ever dreamed as flight simmers. More than that - all those possibilities we have discussed them in the team and we know the road-maps to achieve them in future. Things are not so hard in concept. They're hard in details ?

 

A year ago we have decided what we want to start with. And after a year of work we have a huge progress. As soon as we will ensure that we go right way and everything is doable - we will tell you all the details.

Haha I'd actually love RPG features within a career mode, just imagine, having the pressure to bring your kite home in one piece because your squadron only has 4 serviceable aircraft left for the rest of the month etc

Top Gun is a movie about Marine pilots who operate from aircraft carriers.

IL-2 GB has significant performance issues and very limited multiplayer

DCS has no performance issues, because it has no performance, and a dead ww2 multiplayer scene

WT which has ok performance, but has a smaller sim scene than IL-2 multiplayer, and is a shell of a game, with any chance of it having to be a real game entirely snuffed out by the gacha game mechanics

people who actually play these games might think my performance standards are unrealistic, but they are not at all, and are entirely inline with the majority of gamers 

 

So for a decerning multiplayer dogfighting sim enthusiast like myself

because I entirely disagree with it, its non existent 

so all we can do is wait

Fixed that for you. GB has some pretty decent MP servers that fun can be had on. I think CloD when 6.0 comes out will have plenty of people come back to it with the new plane set. I know I will.

Yep, but there is a UH-1 could be a great addition. Plus if there is small planeset - planes could have greater detalization like clickable cockpits, technican gameplay with VR maintenance and ect. 

To be fair - I can imagine a super-great Vietnam project. May be the best ever flight-sim.

We should have 1st plane in the project to make fair statements about what project will contain. Initial idea - to announce it and tell about details long later - we disliked it after some thinking. Plus, now, we have an external example, when you announcing something when you have nothing in your hands - it will not statisfy the community. Community will ask "so... and what? what next? what exactly you will do?". And you have no answers which are sure by yourself. As I've said before - many technologies are done, but we should try them in new content before be sure that they will be in release. Content is in development.

 

So now the idea to make an announcement and start dev diaries shortly after it. In dev diaries we can tell only what we sure to be done. For now, at current point, I see this possibility in spring 24.
