Simple straight line formation flight question

I'll never be able to create complex custom missions as many of you can, but I've finally been able to create a simple straight line mission with a flight of four aircraft for the simple purpose of creating a screen shot. My issue is the AI planes all head in a different direction when the mission starts. What am I missing that would keep them in formation with me in the lead?

If you're the leader, you don't need waypoints. Just make sure the lead plane is set to 'player' and the other planes are target-linked to the player. You can also add a formation command, and the AI will attempt to follow it as best as possible. See the attached images.
