dburne Posted September 20, 2023 Posted September 20, 2023 Just coming to post that, incredible headset for sure!!
Varibraun Posted September 20, 2023 Posted September 20, 2023 (edited) That is awesome - hopefully means competition is going to bring down the high end headset prices a bit going forward too. Tinfoil hat on: This dramatic price drop, and the Pimax announcement this week that the Crystal will be available for an $800 trade in for the 12K (whenever that may be released), makes me hope they are positioning themselves to get headsets sold in advance of a Valve announcement...or maybe an Aero 2, wouldn't those be nice? Hoping for an Aero 2 but in no real hurry, still getting my money's worth out of my Aero quite nicely. My hunch is they will be doing at Aero 2 just matter of when to do it. Time will tell I reckon. 1
SCG_motoadve Posted September 20, 2023 Posted September 20, 2023 Aero needs a bigger FOV IMHO, it already has an amazing resolution and with FDR probably it is the best performer in DCS (which supports DFR) Will a larger FOV be a performance hit? hope not. Motion Smoothing does not work well in the Aero yet, so they should make it work before going for Aero 2. 1

Not sure how anyone could get around that.
Dagwoodyt Posted September 20, 2023 Posted September 20, 2023 Hopefully the Aero price drop won't contribute to a drop in QC.

javelina Posted September 21, 2023 Posted September 21, 2023 great price for the folks already in the ecosystem. (Having base stations and controllers). I would buy it in a heart beat if it was plug and go, but having to get the other stuff racks up... I'm looking to move from my G2. A few months ago, upgraded my rig to a 13900K, (and reused the 4090). 1
RAAF492SQNOz_Steve Posted September 21, 2023 Posted September 21, 2023 No reduction on the Aero here in Australia yet..... Hmmm.....

This is my main concern which prevent me to buy it even at that price. But the horizontal FOV is good. These are the maximum achievable FOVs of each device (reported in OpenVR library of each device) But this is a good move of Aero. We need competition. I hope if they do am Aero2 they will do a better FOV. Having DFR implemented a larger FOV should not be a problem for the performance.
dburne Posted September 23, 2023 Posted September 23, 2023 Yep Aero vertical FOV is not so good - however I think most new Aero users are like myself in that the other positives outweigh that deficiency and they find it not so big a deal. Horizontal yes is fine.
Freycinet Posted September 23, 2023 Posted September 23, 2023 Surely this means that a new Varjo headset is coming out soon? (Just like with Tesla Model 3s...)

Blitzen Posted September 23, 2023 Posted September 23, 2023 I'll have to pass-base stations are a deal breaker.... 1 1

[CPT]Crunch Posted September 23, 2023 Posted September 23, 2023 Note they also have the lowest stereo overlap, it was sacrificed for the wider FOV, things may not have quite the same 3D vibe.
WheelwrightPL Posted September 24, 2023 Posted September 24, 2023 Is it hard to implement Dynamic Foveated Rendering in IL2 ? Anybody has any idea ?
