Controls stop responding after taking headset off

Paused the game, took my headset off to get a drink of water.

Put it back on and can see everything in the cockpit in VR etc but can't unpause the game.

None of the keyboard commands or joystick buttons work.

I've searched the forum and found MANY cases of this, but they all taper out with no solutions and no response from the devs. Some mention disabling USB power saving, but I've done that for all of time and have a joystick programming software that even verifies it's off for all devices.

It doesn't happen every time I take the headset off, just like every 3rd time or something.

Frustrating because just did a very long mission and was on my way home, now have to wait till tomorrow and do the same mission all over again.

Does anyone know how to solve this?

I have never experienced this with any headset I have used so I can not help here too much.

But you can try this:

- Do full mission without stop  (real pilots were not stoping, do you want full inmersion?  ? )

- have your water near you

- put something ( a scarf) inside the headset so it thinks your head is there.

Yeah but real pilots aren't taking care of a 4 year old. We lost our daycare position when we moved, so he's with me 24/7 now until school starts in January.

That's only one reason, the other is business.

Basically if I have to do sessions not being able to have a break = giving up sims for good. Not an option.

Part of the reason I'm not a real pilot anymore (besides the $), sims are actually more relaxing and less commitment.

I found a setting to keep the screen on for longer, but after asking around it seems this issue isn't exclusive to VR. There's something that happens that causes control inputs to stop, can also happen with pausing, or with alt tabbing. IL2 just gives up after a while.

Yeah, I know what is that.  ?

You always teach him to be your co-pilot....

Or at least teach him how to hotswap your Pimax Crystal battery! ?

(Assuming he has fingers of steel)

Yeah it's been pretty good with the hub, charging itself in between sessions or even during a session. Eg in DCS when I land and re-arm I take a break for 10min between sorties, have done a 4 hour session without swapping battery. That's with the screen off time set to 30 seconds.

In IL2 though I think I'll set screen off time longer to avoid this bug in my OP. However I do much shorter sessions in IL2 so it should be OK.

By the way hot swapping causes DCS to crash, maybe an OpenXR thing. So I make sure I start a session with a full battery then I'm good for many hours as long as I take some rests in between.

It's been happening a bit just during alt-tab, today I alt-tabbed out to change volume in SRS settings and to change channels in discord. Was only 1min and when I went back in the head position was down the bottom of the cockpit off to the side, and IL2 would no longer take any key inputs. Not even ESC for the menu would work. Had to kill the app in the middle of the flight and restart the game :(

Not sure why it cuts off inputs, no other sim or VR game does this due to alt tabbing.
