One year without a further announcement. I was optimistic this day would be the day.

Wow. Hard to believe.

Good module with nice overall enhancements alongside (prop effects, the decals, etc). I got burned out on the testing phase prior to release, I feel like I have not played it as much in the last year.

Normandy/channel is the ideal location for large plane formations but the engine struggles to handle those scenarios and it kind of killed the excitement for me.

My server, The Cold Blue, is running Channel Front missions on the Normandy map all day today if anyone wants to come check it out.  These missions all feature formations of AI bombers (12 Bostons or 18 B-26s standing in for B-17s).  Come enjoy some classic Spitfire vs 109/190 action over the English Channel with us today!

We had a decent turnout for an hour or two (20-30 players) and had a blast over the channel.  I think I'm going to make this a regular Thursday thing - all Channel Front stuff.

I really do love this map - there's something magical about all the recognizable landmarks along the channel.  I played a bit more this evening, and my Spitfire took a little damage while tangling with a couple 109s.  After breaking away I managed to spot a coastal town through a gap in the clouds and recognized the race track at Le Touquet.  After that it just took a few moments with the map to work out a heading towards home.  Sure enough, the white cliffs of Dover came into sight, and now I just needed to steer left a bit to bring me over Folkestone, and back home to Hawkinge.

Normandy is certainly one of the better maps in the game, but my hope was, that there would be further improvements after the official release.

For example:

- spring, autumn, winter versions of the map

- a 3D model of Mont St. Michel

- new lighthouse models and not just a re-use of the Kuban map lighthouses

- more ship types, especially for the German side

- utility poles along the roads

- addition of missing airfields

Yeah, they have obviously totally stopped with any sort of update for it, a real shame really, a great module, but would have been nice to see some more continuous development of it.

It really does seem like a prime candidate for a mini expansion pack. Add the rest of the seasons going backwards in time (spring 44, winter 43/44 and august 43) fill in the allied gaps in the midwar planeset, and throw in a couple german planes to keep the Wehraboos happy. Gotta be way less work than cranking out a whole new Battle, and it would hugely expand the amount of content that the game has to offer.

There’s a ton of great options for additional planes.  The whole Battle of Britain set is a perfect fit.  We’re already getting the Spit F.IX and there are several other good mid-war fighter options - early Typhoon, Mustang I, Whirlwind, Spit XII, P-38H, P-38J-10, early P-47D, Bf109G-1 (with GM-1 injection), Fw190A-1/2 etc.  Throw in a Do-217 for Dieppe.  And then there’s the whole Allied bomber topic - Blenheim, Boston, A-20G, Ventura, flyable versions of the B-25 and B-26 - any of those would be a huge addition to the game.  And an AI B-17 would be amazing.
