Are Recon/Arty Spotting Missions linked to Rank?

I'm trying to do a career involving recon/arty spotting, as these provide a different slant to the usual dogfighting, bombing, etc.

 

I have three running: Brisfit, DH4 and Breguet.

 

In the Brisfit career I have reached 2Lt with over 50 kills, but I'm not being assigned any recon/arty missions. The sqn. does do a few, but I never get them.

 

The DH4 and Breguet careers are only in the early stages, but I only seem to get bombing missions, which I'm less interested in.

 

So, are the recon/arty missions somehow linked to rank, or is there something else I need to do to get assigned such missions?

The response from the developers is no, rank is not tied to whether you are assigned to these mission types.

I wonder why I'm not being assigned any recon or arty missions then.

 

Shame, because they're the ones I want to fly, and you can't pick & choose missions in Career Mode.
