Anti-Cheat Changes - Can something be done to reduce cheating and poor behaviour. Particularly EU server.

There is a significant issue on some servers with a small number of pilots causing toxicity by their poor sportsmanship and/or blatant cheating.

Typical scenario: You get into a firing position on someone's six, often after a long chase or manoeuvring dogfight, you get in range, and they EXIT or Bail Out to avoid a death.

A small number of pilots do this relentlessly as a matter of course (Havros is well known for it). These players Exit and Reconnect many times during a game.

The problem is getting worse as other, new pilots, see this happening and do the same.

I would like to suggest the following changes to combat this (perhaps there are better ways of achieving the same?) :

  • Bailing Out. Disable the Bailout mechanism unless a plane has a certain amount of damage, ideally when the plane is on the point of being unflyable, to stop pilots bailing out at the slightest damage. Perhaps the trigger for enabling bailout would be that another player has registered a kill against that plane - so the hunter gets a kill and the hunted can still save their life by bailing. The bottom line is that there should be no reason for anyone to bailout of an undamaged, armed, plane, they can always land or ditch.

  • Exiting. There are valid reasons for exiting mid-game (the telephone/doorbell rings etc) so it important not to penalise occasional Exits but persistent exiting is a major problem. I don't understand why some pilots do it but suspect it somehow helps their stats, although I am aware it also hits their FairPlay index. I suggest a delay on allowing players back into a server after they exit. e.g. On 1st exit they have to wait 5 minutes, on second exit 10 minutes, on third exit 20 mins, and so on. The Exit counter resets at the start of each map but the time penalty carries forward - so if someone exits many times they will also be excluded from most of the next map.

There are other issues, depending on your viewpoint, especially on the EU server. Clarification is required:

  • Pilots intentionally ramming both AI and Player planes and vehicles. It is very frustrating when, for example, trying to defend ships and an attacking pilot does a suicide run from high altitude straight into a ship - virtually impossible to defend.
  • Strafing stationary planes on the ground. Some pilots say this should not be done - others get most of their kills waiting for planes to land so they can strafe them.
  • Limited Plane Cheat. Two occasions recently where Allied pilots have temporarily joined the Axis team and intentionally selected and immediately crashed all instances of a limited plane (e.g. ME262). They then re-join Allies knowing they have sabotaged the Axis team.
  • Spectator. I have never used "spectator" but have noticed that at the start of the map some players are in "spectate" mode for say 5 minutes before joining the game. I have noticed that these same players have then spawned and come directly to where I have taken, say, a bomber. Coincidence? Maybe, but it is odd how often it happens, and frequently on a large map with only a handful of pilots in the map. Can players observe an enemy bomber in flight from "spectate" and work out where it is going and then join the server to attack it - if so this needs addressing?
  • Vote Banning - This should be a useful tool for players to self manage the server they use but in practice it is being used by a small group of pilots to ban people who they don't have the skills to beat. In one case recently a player was vote banned for flying a Jet - the Allies hadn't worked out its weaknesses so decided to ban it. The use of Vote Banning on the EU server is currently verbally prohibited (though this is only known via a small forum post) with pilots who use the feature risking a ban themselves - however most of the pilots on the server are not aware of this.

I have my own views on whether the above is acceptable and the issue is that every pilot has their own view too.

Pilots need to be told what is acceptable on each server.

I believe there are two main things to address here:

  • There needs to be a code of conduct on each server so players know whether strafing planes on a runway, ramming ships etc is acceptable. How about introducing an area on the Map details screen that has a statutory code of conduct(CoC) area, it could be a template, so that all servers have a consistent CoC. By "consistent" I refer to the format, the actual CoC will be different for each server, e.g. some may allow strafing planes on the ground whilst others would not. It may be a coincidence but behaviour in servers with a CoC does seem to be better than in those without.
  • There needs to be a standard and available way of getting admin help to deal with persistent offenders. The CoC could include details on when it is appropriate for players to use Voteban - and also include details of penalties for improper use. That way the server could self-administrate to a large extent and if Admins deal swiftly to ban trouble makers the problem should be quickly resolved.

Just my thoughts, I would be interested to know whether others agree and what can be done. My fear at the moment is that new, and existing, pilots will be driven away from IL2 which would be a shame.

The above stuff is driving players away, but all you can do is talk to the admins of the server. They'll decide if they want to make changes or referee things, and if they're not willing or able to do that, then there's nothing to be done, thats how the server is for better or worse.

What I see is crying of germans, that they are not alone on the server, that they dont have 2times better planes then enemies and that they must do something instead of winning maps just by itself, bcs of germany must always have it easy :)

In our country there is such proverd: "sweep your own doorstep firstly!"

You mentioned EU server, OK.

1) Its Germany pilots who kills the targets by hitting it by own plane (suicide or kamikatze), just to hit target and be possible to fly to other one.

2) I can name german pilots who does chute killing almost permanently.

3) I can name german pilots who leave server each time when killed, just not to be in the statistics

4) I can name german pilot who uses cheating by permanent lagging (see as bad connections), but its intentional.

5) Its German side, who has jet planes on many maps, which gives them a Huge advantage (on vast maps they reach target zone in less time, you know)

6) its German side, who doesnt need any action to win tank battles, bcs tigers and panthers do the job themselves, without any help from live players.

7) Some maps are done in such way, that its German side, who has shortet distances to the target zones, and consequently they need less time to win map.

You germans win the monthly statistics last few month, bcs of suicide flights of your teammates.

Last time I see some allied pilots, who used to visit server often, are now banned (!) I ask WHY?!

Is the tactic of germans to erase all enemies from server, just to win each map, or what the hell?

I didnt complained publically about the points I wrote, bcs its game and to the hell: "let everyone do what they want" but when I read your "terrible" game experience, I had to write something.

As I said on the first: sweep your own doorstep firstly!
