Hi

I read in old posts on the forum, that there should be a dedicated download for the DServer available through my profile page (or of course my host-accounts profile page)

But all I can find there is a full game download, which of course you  shouldn't need for hosting.

I could download the whole game, or make a copy of my already existing gamefolder, which is exactly what I've done, but I'd rather like a download trimmed of all the things you don't need when running DServer (should be gigabytes smaller than a gamedownload)

See here manual chapter 11

Yeah, I did actually - but the download link on the profile page is to the whole gamesetup, and the installer you download from there, does not ask you if you want the whole game or just the server.

It's no problem though, I just installed the game from my steamaccount on my laptop, and since I am never flying from my laptop, I can run the included DServer from there. Alas, it turns out, my laptop is too weak to run a satisfactory server ...

Perhaps they just changed it - no separate download of the Dserver anymore?

It's a completely separate install of the full game but set up so it's just for dedicated server as far as I know. Not sure how the licensing is handled.

But this instruction from the manual, will give you a full game install. Not a 'DServer version'. Things has obviously changed since the manual was written.

I think you might need to get in touch with the devs, to get permission to run this.

As Zooropa_Fly said - you need to contact the team and provide details to get a dserver login. See the start of Chapter 11 or below:

Spoiler

Create a DServer Account
Before you can obtain and run a DServer, you must create a DServer account. The account
allows you to download and use a free, limited version of IL-2 Sturmovik that includes the
DServer software. This procedure shows you how to obtain the DServer account from 1C
Game Studios customer service.
Do the following:
1. Log in to your IL-2 Sturmovik account (the one that you purchased, not another
DServer account) at http://il2sturmovik.com.
2. Click the "Support" link and then click "I have not found a solution in the FAQ".
A "Contacting Customer Support" page appears.
3. Choose subject "Other (please specify)".
4. Under "Enter a subject", type "Dserver please"
5. Under "Describe the problem", type the following:
"Please, provide me with a special account that I would like to use to host a dedicated
server. I know that such account would not let me play the game and that it doesn’t
have planes on it, and I acknowledge that such account is the property of 1C Game
Studios."
6. Click "Send" to submit the request.

Some things to check:

- Did you download the DServer version from a different account than the one you got the paid version of The game from?

- If you answered yes to the point above, try to fly in the DServer version. If you can not fly, you have the free version, even though it’s the same or similar size to the paid version.

I have a separate account for DServer, I did download from that account. I've done everything by the book :)

But if the DServer download is just the same as the game-download, there's no point in it. I read somewhere that it should be several gigabytes smaller, which makes sense, since you don't need the graphics-data to run a server.

You cannot run the DServer that comes with the paid game and also fly on that server yourself; you need the separate, free DServer install to do this. The exception is if you already have the free DServer. Then (apparently) you can start your paid DServer using the account login credentials you set up for the free DServer and fly on that server using your paid account login.

Re. the size, perhaps the devs found it quicker to just turn off access to fly in the free version rather than remove code etc. that is not used and risk breaking the server functionality. Only they know.

Now that's something, I'm gonna check that out, because my CPU has 16 cores, and the game is only utilizing the power of one or two of them. Each one faster in it self than the four cores on my laptop.
