New player to il2-BOS. Hello!

Hello everyone,

I just recently bought il2-BOS and am starting to get on my feet. It doesn't look like there is a new player sub forum, but if I just overlooked it my apologies.

I am a long time il2:1946, wwiiol and DCS player who is returning to flight sims after a long break (COD left a bad taste in my mouth). So well I'm not an expert, I definitely understand the basics. I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction for the following questions.

1.) I was able to set up about 90% of the controls to my joystick/rudder pedals without too much hassle, but mapping view controls is proving to be really tricky. Typically I favor the il2-46 controls with a toggle for snap and pan (i dont have track IR), but I can't seem to get the snap controls to work well. When they do work, i find that switching between snap and pan constantly zooms me in and out, which delays the view change and makes it rather disorienting/hard to track planes. Currently the only real way to fly is to use a pan view, and the mouse wheel to zoom in (as I can't find a gunsight view either). Any suggestions here or perhaps a link to a common control set up that people like?

2.) When is the best time for multiplayer and how big is the community? I'm on the west coast, but i was little surprised to see only about 6 people online this Sunday at about 5pm. My guess is Saturday morning is the best time since that way europe can also join in, but are there any other nights/weekdays that are popular?

3.) Anything else I should know?.. such as an obscure key command that probably should be bound to my joystick that new players tend to overlook etc?

Thanks and I look forward to flying with you all.

Hey bobby, sounds like a conflict somewhere that might be both zooming you outand snap viewing you. If you see a little orange box in the control section. It means you have a dual mapped key. Also to speed up the camera. Go to cmaera controls and increase the speed there (cant remember off the top of my head what the actual option is called) hope that helps just a little. By all means if you do MP. Get on the official bos teamspeak!

WELCOME!

Hi Bobby,

The hat views are complicated by the fact that there are three different modes for them that can be accessed using the F9 key. Give it a try and you'll see what I mean.

Also try looking around with the mouse - I find it much easier.

Welcome to the asylum.
