[80 years ago today] "• The Tupolev Tu-2S has its maiden flight. This version upgrades the 1,450 hp Shvetsov ASh-82 engines with 1,850 hp Ash-82FN engines in nacelles with lower drag, and replaces the three bladed propellers with four blades. This keeps the Tu-2 effective in its designed role of high speed bomber with fighter maneuverability. Tu-2S will begin entering service in early 1944 on the Finnish front. Postwar it will see combat in the Chinese Civil War with the People’s Liberation Army Air Force and the Korean War with the PLAAF and KPAAF.
