DCS FW190-D9 release countdown

2 more days until we get to fly the Dora!

Just by looking at the start-up video, I can already feel my mouth water over the crispy details of the cockpit.

So looks like DCS somehow managed to get the 3D cockpit that is similar to real life look without raising the Revi height.

Dev said it's a compromise for the forward visibility because BoS's default view is a same height as Revi sight.

How about make default view just like the one from other sims, and add a key for snap view for 'aim down sight' ??

I think that's a proper solution rather than a compromising things which probably cause more debate when the game actually releases and more players starts to play this game. (I can assure that lots of people won't like the product they get for $20)

Very nice.  Makes the 190 BOS cockpit, just in what the pilot can see (not quality issues etc), look a little disappointing.  The limited "clickability" of BOS in comparison is not an issue for me, as I understand where the devs are coming from and it does provide a point of difference (which many will prefer).    Still hoping down the track that BOS can match (more or less) the DCS pilot view.  Think I will stick to the 109 in the meantime.  Good luck BOS devs, I sincerely think this is an issue that has to be addressed.  I really would like to see this title succeed, allowing the team to continue game development in WW2 aviation.

Now the DCS servers will have a proper opponent instead of the German skinned P-51's we always see. I think somebody make a Bf-109 AI plane as a MOD too right?

Posted

DCS 109 k4 is coming in october.

Looks perfect. Can't wait to try it out and hunt some P-51 with it.

1 day to go :) Can't wait to try it out! Will buy the Bf109K-4 as well :)

Still hoping that also us backers will get the possibility to put our hands on the Dora in the next days without having to purchase a second license key. Awards page is still not available.

If they play it right you backers should get it. If you would need to buy another key for it then you could call it a real ripoff.

Wow. So it really sounds like backers might have to wait until they get access. Or just buy the plane and use the free-plane-reward for a different plane instead. I did not plan to spend any more money on 1944 at least until i used up my rewards.

I was a bit miffed when I could not be a backer to DCS:WW2, but now it seems I did not lose much. I really feel sorry for those who poured in hundreds if not thousands of dollars. What will they eventually get?

Beautiful cockpit. Absolutely gorgeous. I suspect some of the missing animations may be WIP still?

Not so blown away by the external model, I just don't like the way the DCS engine renders lighting and bump mapping.

Posted

I'm getting two planes of choice for my $50.00, which is of course less than what was advertised (=all planes), but unless you compare the Steam sale prices, i don't think i'll lose money. I would've bought the 190 and 109 anyway and not waited for a discount. But backing and having to wait longer than the non-backers was not really something i expected.

But i hope for the best.

I hope you get the Dora now :) Finkeren, the lighting makes the plane look a bit odd. I wonder if the new EDGE engine will improve the looks?

Posted

The lighting just makes it look a bit dated. Like IL2-1946 with better textures and higher poly count.

The sounds, which are fine overall, do seem a bit out of balance. Should the sound deploying electrical flaps with cockpit closed sound so clear over an idling engine?

Still, it's minor issues. It really does look very promising.

Well at least the view out of the cockpit is correct ;) Will see how it handles in the air, will be interesting to see.

I put in $100 so I'll get the FW-190 D-9, 109 K-4, Spitfire IX, P47-D and Me-262. That's $20 a plane - bargain.

Indeed. I put 40$ and get 2 planes + normandy map, about 150$ worth of stuff. Not as much as RRG promised but still not bad at all. I bought Dora key and will save my free planes later so i don't need to wait anything.

What do you need help with, mate? It took me a while before I could figure out exactly what I was doing wrong with the P-51.

I wondered what the fuzz about P-51D was. Nothing extraordinary to cope with and easy to fly IF following the instructions. Only problem with Dora for me could be that I do not have toe brakes on my pedals, or should say they do not work because of being so old (1997).

Oh,my vallet will be empty again this evening after paying for this bird in ED shop :salute:

I will choose her as my backer reward.

But

Backers page is under upgrade. Please come back later.

It's such a shame BoS couldn't have that level of interaction for all its planes. Not talking about mouse-clickable cockpits, it would have been sufficient to have map-able HOTAS/keyboard commands. And an auto-function for those who don't like that kind of complexity.

Can't have it all I guess.

Posted

The good thing about BoS is that such details can be added later. Like the complex synchronisation gears that were added to RoF.

We'll likely never have the level of complexity of DCS, but I'm hoping to see stuff like fuel tank management and adjustable gunsights in the future.

One particular thing I'd like to see was the adjustable bomb delay that the Il-2 had (or at least I understand it had from a book I have on it). That is something that I think would be seriously useful in BoS...

Posted

They probably delayed it so that backers get access too.

Would be nice!

Ok,I can keep my money for at least one more day and go this evening to pub to flush them down the throat

Yes I wondered if its for that. I'm a backer but I chose to pay for the Dora and will use my backer selection for other planes. I don't know why it would be such a big deal though if a backer didn't get it day one, surely there are bigger things in life to be upset about.

And if they would do the same (giving backers access even after regular orders) with the next plane and the next plane and the next plane?

Of course there are always bigger things to be upset about, but delaying the release and giving everyone access at the same time would be the smartest choice in this case (if this is actually the reason for this delay).

Some pledged hundreds of dollars or more for DCS WW2.  You don't think it is important that they are first in line for the Fw 190D-9?

Posted

I don't think they need to be very first in line, but they shouldn't be last in line. And especially not because some reward page is not working yet.

Is there a specific place I have to queue? I hope it is near my favourite pub

So looks like DCS somehow managed to get the 3D cockpit that is similar to real life look without raising the Revi height.

Yo-Yo did say they raised the viewpoint and Revi in the dcs 190D.  Though, just from eyeballing it, looks like ED didn't raise it as high as 777.

http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=2132499&postcount=348

So, I want to say that the visible field including the bar obstacle will be the same with or without refraction. The only effect is equivalent of the pilot head (eyes) shifted a little bit higher.

If we have no refraction effect in the 3D engine (I do not know exactly) the right way to make a good solution is to shift the camera position together with the gunsight.

And, by the way, everybody can estimate this required shift using the simple equation:

Shift = d*sin(a)*(1-cos(a)/sqrt(n^2 - sin(a)^2)), where n is refraction coeff for glass, a - angle of incidence, d- glass thickness

so, if n=1.7 (typical), d =58mm and a=60 deg the shift is about 30 mm.

UPD: This shifting is exactly the same 777 made for their 190A
