=TU=flynvrtd Posted August 20, 2023 Posted August 20, 2023 (edited) Is it possible for server admins to assign scoring according to how well you play to the objectives of the map. It has become stupid too go to attack an assigned target, only to find the incessant point defensive group hanging out RIGHT at the objective. Not to prevent any damage to the target. ONLY to get the almighty fighter kill once the attack is already completed. Perhaps series of perimeter rings. The closer to center of the target objective, the lower the points awarded for a kill... 69th_Mobile_BBQ Posted August 20, 2023 Posted August 20, 2023 This is a rather vague statement. Care to elaborate on what might be done?
357th_KW Posted August 21, 2023 Posted August 21, 2023 One option would involve rethinking how targets are communicated to players. Most servers label all the mission targets on the map, and it’s very clear to both sides exactly what targets need to be attacked or defended. The targets are just barely past the front line, and there is no real effective radar. As a result the safest, easiest and most effective way to find enemies is to patrol over the target areas and let the flak guide you onto any targets. Yes, the enemy will get one pass, but they won’t be able to make repeated passes or loiter over the target to carefully identify targets - and players tend to get frustrated and either go to a different target, or come back in a fighter or just quit outright. In a perfect world, you’d catch them before they got to the target, but with no radar this can be very difficult - there’s a very high chance you’ll never spot them in the ground clutter, and patrolling in enemy territory makes you the target of flak, revealing your position to enemy fighters. So it’s not surprising that this tactic is so common. But what if you didn’t know where the enemy was going to attack? It’s possible to display target icons to only the attacking side. The potential problem here is that a player could switch teams to look at the map from the other side. Alternatively you could communicate targets to players through text messages, or voice through SRS. Another trick would be to use time limited targets, which are only active for a limited time, before being swapped for another target, thus making it much harder for spies to stay on top of the current target.
=TU=flynvrtd Posted August 21, 2023 Author Posted August 21, 2023 My point is, The large majority DON'T go looking to intercept. They just hover over the objective ineffectively except to kill the attacker. Almost always after he's gotten bombs on target. 1

=TU=flynvrtd Posted August 21, 2023 Author Posted August 21, 2023 I already listed one possibility. Devalue the points value if your enemy has hit the target. If you intercept and shoot down an enemy on his side of the lines the points value would be higher. Reward those that are hitting targets to play the servers map objectives, motivate players to ho out and hunt. Instead of loitering over the fish barrel for the eashy fiiiighter pilotsh pointsch.
69th_Mobile_BBQ Posted August 21, 2023 Posted August 21, 2023 I don't think that the game is capable of being adjusted like this. The in-game scoreboard, I mean. As far as server statistics points... The penalty for dynamic campaign servers is that eventually, your team loses if fighters use the facilities targets to spot easy bombers. On single-mission servers, the concept is almost the same. If a player is a "point defender", as you call them, I guarantee you that the only points they care about are kill streaks and don't care about team losses anyway. Hell, I even know of at least one pilot - I won't name - that disconnects when their plane is doomed but their pilot is still alive because it preserves their streak scores on the server stats page.
1PL-Husar-1Esk Posted August 24, 2023 Posted August 24, 2023 In the past there were DED stats page where you earn more points for shooting down the bomber if the bomber which you shoot down were carrying bombs. If not you got standard amount of points, no bonus.
