I'm at a loss with moving around in IL-2 menus.

I'm at a loss (and been for years) when it comes to maneuver the menues in IL-2 without a mouse but just a keyboard.

I use TAB to move around in the main menu and there is a dark grey box indicating where I am. If I press Enter go to mission it's a hit and miss moving around as there's no indicator. The same goes for other menues. Some I can quit with ESC, some I can go furter pressing Enter other doesn't accept ENTER but SPACE, aso.

The problem is that there's no indication which box is "active". For instance, If chosing to end a mission I press escape and up comes a menu with a large red box with "Finish Mission" written in it. If I press Enter (or sometimes Return if Enter is not triggering) nothing is happening. I have to tab down to the the last row and THEN press Enter. Then I am wondering, why is there a red box in the first place? Same goes for most of the green menu boxes. It's a coloured box with no more functionality than the rest, so why is it green (as indicating it's the default to press on)?

Is there anywhere I can get the info on all menu "features" in IL-2 Stumovik about this behaviour? Or did I miss something in the documentation?

The colour of the "Finish Mission" box is used to indicate whether the mission objectives have been successfully completed (green) or not (red). It doesn't have anything to do with whether or not the control is focused.

Not that I know of.

Just as a matter of curiosity, why don't you just grab a mouse? :)

IMO too many IL2 gamers lost their mouse :

Mice cannot compute, they merely maneuver, click and roll at times. They are way overrated, a nuisance at times, but essential.

Only thing I can think of is that you must have a separate simpit thats away from your main machine. In which case I suggest looking for a hybrid keyboard/touchpad combo. You can find them on Amazon (https://a.co/d/83WvuiR) That one is even wireless. I definitely don't recommend trying to navigate menus by fiddling with tab keys or any of that nonsense.
