If you look at the ALPHA layer on the template you're using you'll find that all the roundels etc are darker grey than the unpainted aluminium areas. It is this you need to do to any areas that you have painted on any bare metal areas, as what happens if you don't is your artwork becomes 'metallic' in it's refelctive qualities and loses all fidelity and becomes pretty much unintelligible to anyone but the CLOSEST observer. Here's what I mean. More importantly, I'm not being critical as it is a mistake that a lot of people make when not entirely 'au fait' with working with skin files so please don't take offence. ... and here's it's ALPHA layer. Note all the paintwork on the finished skin compared to it's ALPHA. ... and here's what you end up with Cheers and I hope this helps Rap 2
brianjgregory Posted August 25, 2023 Author Posted August 25, 2023 Hi Raptorattacker, Thanks for the above. The problem l'm having is that I can't figure out how to selectively edit the alpha channel areas associated with the noseart, serial nos. etc I'm adding to the skin; hence their very high gloss. If I could work out how to lighten just those areas, I'd be laughing; but as it is I've spent several hours fruitlessly pratting about with the Alpha 1 channel with everything else deselected, but so far with no success. Any further advice gratefully received! Thanks, Brian.
ROCKET_KNUT Posted August 25, 2023 Posted August 25, 2023 In the skinpack there is also a template for the alpha. That's the one you need to modify in order to get the result you're after. Simply copy paste (strg c and strg v) your noseart layer from your skin template into the alpha template. Choose the grey shade you need for your nose art and apply it to the area in the nose art layer you just copied. Flatten the alpha template and copy paste it into your skin template. Then in order to create your alpha layer in the skin it gets a bit tricky but it is really not that complicated. There is an excellent explaination video done by a gentleman called "Eggnog". It is called "Alpha Management in Gimp for IL2 skinners" and it is easy to find on youtube. Cheers!
