Roshko Posted August 16, 2023 Posted August 16, 2023 I'd like to be able to host a server via the ingame option. I've just tried with a friend, and we had the exact same issues: We'd get kicked off of each our own server. We were both able to connect to internet-servers. But we could'nt create a server that didn't immediately kick it's own host off. We then turned to public dogfight servers. In one server the files-download would hang, and on both machines freeze the computer. We we're both at our respective homes, so different inet-connections. We are both quite computer-litterate. We are even on different OS'es, I'm on Linux and he is on Windows, but we both experienced exactly the same set of malfunctions - and we never succeeded in hosting for the other. I think that hosting games for each other, must be a very fundamental feature in a game like this. SP is cool, but MP with friends is really a must. It must be easy to set up, and it ought to just work out of the box. It does so in 1000s of other games, and it certainly could work in BoX as well. Browsing forums (amo. this forum) one only find posts with the same frustrations as we have experienced tonight. Some of them 3-4 years old. I think that the hosting part needs some serious love ... ❤️

Just in case it helps, you need to do some port forwarding as the host. The hanging is likely the session waiting to connect and timing out due to ports being closed. Example of what is needed. Pretty sure it is in the pdf game manual or just goggle like I did to get the link below. Roshko Posted August 17, 2023 Author Posted August 17, 2023 (edited) Thanks - I'll check it out, but we did do port forwarding. And about the hanging, we both connected to another server just fine both before and after that, so it couldn't be ports that was suddenly closed. Edited August 17, 2023 by Roshko

Doesn't mean anything. Without port forwarding configured you can connect to a server, but not host one (you can initiate outbound connections but others won't be able to initiate connections to you).
Roshko Posted August 19, 2023 Author Posted August 19, 2023 Then I should be able to connect to his host.
Charon Posted August 22, 2023 Posted August 22, 2023 The most common issues: * One or both of you are behind carrier grade NAT. In this case, the external IP your router shows will something different than https://www.whatismyip.com/ shows. * Port forwarding is misconfigured. If it's configured correctly, port 28000 (and 28100?) should show as OPEN on https://portchecker.co/ while you're hosting the mission. 1
1PL-Husar-1Esk Posted August 22, 2023 Posted August 22, 2023 Something is missing (and that is not port forwarding) because when I host the game, others can join and write a messages but when they spawn we do not see ich other. I can see damage they do to object (fire , smoke, destroyed models) but planes are invisible....
