1Sascha Posted August 9, 2023 Posted August 9, 2023 What sort of afterburner detent (if any) do you guys use? I'm still on the aerobatic ones which work well enough for some planes - but setting them up for, say, the 109 makes it impossible to set and keep combat power in the 190. The throttle will start to "wander" after it goes over the hump of the detent and will enter WEP-territory on its own (the weight of the grips is pulling the throttle towards 100% in this scenario). I currently have my physical detent set to 85% for the FW 190 and I can work around that in some 109s - but flew the F-2 again last night and found it quite impossible to manage my throttle with this setup. 80 to ~86 or so is WEP in that thing and beyond that still sits the boosted mode - meaning due to the throttle not staying put once it's over the detent's hump, the plane will switch from WEP to boosted on its own unless I pay close attention to the levers' position. The lift-over detents mean you lose precision at and beyond the lift-over point - or at least that's what I found. Insert the lift-over detent at, say, 80% in-game throttle and once the mechanism snaps back down behind the detent, you won't be at 81% but at a rather higher in-game throttle setting. I guess to use those lift-overs, I would need to fiddle with the axes in the VPC software. But before I do any of that, I thought I'd ask around if anyone had a simpler solution. Also: Anyone else getting deformations on the detents' center cutouts? Basically, I think what's happening there is that the screw, once tightened down, bites into the plastic "rails" inside those cutouts. I put a formerly never used detent on there and I didn't fasten the screw too much, but when I took the detent off again, I saw that it was already deformed in there, making it pretty much impossible to slide the detent back and forth to fine-adjust its position once it's semi-installed into the throttle. S.
Panzerlang Posted August 9, 2023 Posted August 9, 2023 I fitted the detents that allow full travel without the use of the levers (they go over the hump with added pressure). I've not set WEP manually, the game seems to recognize the position in both the 109 and 190 by itself (or so it seems).
JG1_Vonrd Posted August 15, 2023 Posted August 15, 2023 I don't use any detents for piston planes. They might be useful for knowing boost operation though. I made some inserts to hold the finger lifts open. I'm "Rick D" in the thread here: https://forum.virpil.com/index.php?/topic/8141-cm3-finger-lift-retainers/ imacken has also posted on how to set the initiation point for detents individualized for different planes. I use it for the different afterburner initiation points in DCS (MiG-21 vs Mirage 2000, etc.) Search that website for "detent" and you will find it.
