71st_AH_Hooves Posted August 3, 2014 Posted August 3, 2014 Hey guys! Was having an Epic sortie when Last Rights jumped out flight of 2 yaks and 2 LA5's. He put several rounds into the tail end charlie and lit him on fire. The Yak dove away in flames, but all of a sudden. The fire went out! Glitch or modeled?
II/JG17_HerrMurf Posted August 3, 2014 Posted August 3, 2014 I saw an engine fire go out on a Yak last week and continue trailing smoke for about a minute more. He continued maneuvering but then his engine stopped and he crash landed.
Finkeren Posted August 3, 2014 Posted August 3, 2014 Given that putting out fires was already posible in RoF, it wouldn't surprise if it is modelled in BoS. It's just harder due to more volatile fuel in greater quantities.
Voidhunger Posted August 3, 2014 Posted August 3, 2014 its modeled, i always dive to extinguish flame (if im not too wounded) and heading for home
Pringliano Posted August 3, 2014 Posted August 3, 2014 Whow! Didn't know it was a modeling feature. Great!
YoYo Posted August 3, 2014 Posted August 3, 2014 But what about fire extinguisher? I confirm rhan diving works but fire extinguisher?
Finkeren Posted August 3, 2014 Posted August 3, 2014 I dunno. Did the Pe-2 have them? I know the He 111 did, so they should definately be modeled.
Leaf Posted August 3, 2014 Posted August 3, 2014 (edited) Yep, pretty sure it's modelled. Seen it happen quite a few times. First time I saw it, I couldn't quite believe it. Edited August 3, 2014 by LeafyPredicament
smink1701 Posted August 3, 2014 Posted August 3, 2014 I would like to see flames lead to an occasional explosion. Seems like when a plane is engulfed it would be a common thing but I never see it.
Bullets Posted August 3, 2014 Posted August 3, 2014 I would like to see flames lead to an occasional explosion. Seems like when a plane is engulfed it would be a common thing but I never see it. Always happens too me... Never landed safely after being flammed always explode.
smink1701 Posted August 3, 2014 Posted August 3, 2014 I've lit up many bots, watched them quicly engulf in flames and if the pilot is still alive they fly around for a few minutes and then the guy ejects or augers in. I have never seen a mid air explosion.
OBT-Psycho Posted August 3, 2014 Posted August 3, 2014 I did once. I don't remember which plane it was, but I lit it on fire. I then followed him and when I was about to turnaround, he exploded in a fireball.
Wind Posted August 3, 2014 Posted August 3, 2014 I've lit up many bots, watched them quicly engulf in flames and if the pilot is still alive they fly around for a few minutes and then the guy ejects or augers in. I have never seen a mid air explosion. Would be lovely to see the AI to do that kind of manouvres. Like, if alt=dive & evade // if not = limp home and bail.

While judgment being impaired from an agonizing toothache for the last few day's. I decided to take to the sky. There they were all four of 'em If I were smart I would have left them alone. I wasn't. If I were smarter I would have hit and ran. I wasn't.... Hooves took me out. The thing is I didn't see smoke or fire on my side....Granted things got "hot" I think I would have seen it if it were there at my end. I wasn't even sure the plane was damaged enough to leave the fight. Either I totally missed it (I doubt it) or something odd happened in game.

LLv34_Flanker Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 S! The fires on Pe-2 quite well matches the reports by FiAF on Pe-2 kills. Most of them caught fire easily between the engine and fuselage. Even with a system like letting exhaust gases into the tank, the fire will be lit after a good salvo as the system is meant to be against smaller punctures and such, not a barrage of 20mm HE for example.
