Herodotus Posted July 23, 2023 Posted July 23, 2023 (edited) EDIT: Fixed, thanks to community support. Hi guys. I have just swapped my old Logitech basic joystick that gave me so much service in my flight sims so far, for a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro joystick. I spent quite some time setting it up, but noticed that when setting up the X axis, roll was not recognised in the settings option at the end of the mapping line. After setting it up, I started a quick mission to test it out. Now I know the Spitfire is a thoroughbred, and prone to erratic behaviour, but after pressing "P" my plane immediately pitched down. I pulled back on my joystick, but began a slow roll to the left. I tried rolling the plane to correct but nothing happened. I tried yaw (the T axis) and turning the controller to the left had the plane turning further to the right. Back to joystick set up, entered the X axis again, same result. I am not sure what I'm doing wrong, but my X axis is just not responding. Again, when trying for the 5th time to set the X axis up, I noticed it does not register my rolling, again just rolling slowly to the left. Is this the issue, or how do I get the set-up to recognise pitching up for the X axis? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Edited July 24, 2023 by Herodotus Problem resolved

Herodotus Posted July 23, 2023 Author Posted July 23, 2023 (edited) Thanks for the suggestion, but everything worked just fine. I have no issue with DCS modules, the original "IL=2", "Rise of Flight", "IL-2: Cliffs of Dover" etc. I guess I'll just have to keep plugging away at it. EDIT: Just tried setting up again, and used the in-game input response. Seems it's actually the X axis that's the issue. I can pitch up and down but can't roll or yaw (T axis works sometimes but in reverse to what I what it to do). I give up. Might come back to it when I haven't spent the evening trialling different flight sims. Edited July 23, 2023 by Herodotus Correction

Start parked, start and then idle the engine; watch the control surfaces as you move the joystick (use an outside camera view). Do the control surfaces begin in a neutral attitude if your stick is neutral? Do they move in the correct way as you move your stick in each axis?

Did as you suggested, and all control surfaces worked perfectly, from an outside view (Y, X, and T all working as advertised). Tried the throttle (Z Axis) as well, and it worked just fine (too fine actually, as I bounced off the runway and into a hangar). So, starting in the air is the issue?
cardboard_killer Posted July 23, 2023 Posted July 23, 2023 Maybe your trim tabs are messed up? Try starting in the air and put the "straight and level" autopilot on, then look at the control surfaces again while the autopilot flies straight and level. Check the trim tabs, which are hard to get a good look at as they are so small. Also, you mentioned the spit, have you tried any other planes? 1

I had tried the Tempest and Kittyhawk (or Warhawk, forget which variant), but now I just tried a quick mission with the P-40 again and everything worked perfectly. Perhaps there's a gremlin in that one quick mission over Normandy or just another of the vagaries of computers. I can't thank you enough for your suggestions, as I was about ready to give this joystick the heave-ho.
