The 2nd lens of your Pimax Crystal 
Dear pre-order customer,

We would like to inform you about the 2nd pair of lenses that are included in your pre-order deal.
 
Your preorder deal consists of the standard 35 ppd lens (delivered) and the 42 ppd lens (yet to be delivered). 

Next to those 2 lens options, we are also working on a new set of lenses that will maximize the FOV. These wide FOV lenses will be offered to all of our customers as an additional accessory that can be purchased for $129 later this year.

We have received a lot of feedback from you and we learned that many customers are actually very interested in these upcoming new wide FOV lenses and would even prefer those over the 42 ppd ones that are exclusively part of your pre-order package. 

The wide FOV lenses are much more expensive in production than the 42ppd ($30) ones. The reason for this is the material: just like the 35ppd lens, the wide FOV lenses are made from glass as opposed to the standard polycarbonate material of the 42ppd ones. 

We still would like to allow you to get the lenses that you actually prefer to own. Therefore you can now choose from the following options: 
 
1. Change nothing and keep the 42ppd lens.These will be delivered to you once ready.The users who pre-order and pay the full payment by 7/31 would have this option.
(And we will close 42PPD from Aug ).

2. Cancel 42ppd lens delivery and get a $30 coupon  instead of the lenses.This coupon can be used with accessories including lighthouse faceplate.

3. Cancel 42ppd lens delivery and upgrade to Wide Fov Lens for a special price of $59 instead of $129.

*This deal will end on July 31,Customers ordering Crystal from August will only receive the standard version lens (35PPD).

Not great from pimax, FOV delivered is below what they originally claimed, lots of late

items , including hardware, and software (where is the eye tracking?) and now they say 42ppd are poly not glass , but a great offer to pay 59 usd to get a wider FOV, possibly 1/2 way towards the fov they originally advertised !

 

only mitigation is the headset has superb visuals…….

I’m still waiting on my Crystal to arrive, but in the meantime I chose option three, hoping the clarity will still be equivalent to the 35 ppd lenses (though probably not) and also hoping my VR Rock prescription lenses will still fit over the wider FOV lenses.

Have Pimax said anything about when the wide FOV lenses would be ready/shipped? dates? or is it just "some time in the future" still?

No updates on the lenses, no, which includes no new details on shipping, FOV size, or compatibility with current corrective lens inserts. They seem pretty swamped with trying to meet orders to send Crystals, but are about 4 weeks behind their original plans.

 

Patience and luck seem to be a part of the Pimax experience. My trusty G2 helps me be patient, and perhaps luck will be on my side when my Crystal finally arrives in early September, according to their most recent shipping email they sent me.

Thanks, I thought since that was a July post you'd have your headset and were just waiting on lenses.. I'm going to try to buy local which is supposed to receive reseller stock this week. Easier to get support and returns if issues but costs $100 more

I had the second email too, with another $30 voucher. Shipping now "maybe end of August". If I get a third such email I'll cancel the order.

Unless something else releases, you are just too close to cancel even if you get another email.  At least from my experience so far, it is worth the wait to upgrade from the G2 without a release date on anything comparable.

They want to maximize incoming funds. Hope they are putting the bulk of customer' money into hmd production rather than into YT promotions. ?

Was a bit of a backlash against the claimed FOV of the original, because alot of people couldn't see that and it's different for every head. They might be scared and just say "it's larger" lol
