GardenSnek Posted July 18, 2023 Posted July 18, 2023 I recently started playing this game and every single time Im doing a mission as Im flying I end up way to the left of the intented flight path. It does not seem to matter whether I fly by keeping my heading or flying with the waypoint in my reticle I always end up no where near the flight path and I do not know what im doing wrong.
GardenSnek Posted July 18, 2023 Author Posted July 18, 2023 like even if I try to counteract it by aiming to the right of the way point I still end up being to the left of the flight plan

Any encounters that are supposed to trigger along the way will happen anyway, so you're not missing anything. Most likely, it's crosswind that is pushing you off the exact line. If anything, you might just have to correct left/right even more if you're looking to be precise.
R33GZ Posted July 18, 2023 Posted July 18, 2023 I think magnetic deviations are modeled as well. So maps closer to the arctic will have more deviation than say Normandy. I may be confusing this with CLoD though. Upper atmosphere winds can be pretty brutal though - 20m/s will push you quite a bit off course

You're very likely being pushed off course by the wind. Imagine you're flying heading north and you have a strong wind from the west (90 degrees to the left of your nose) you may be flying pointing north but the wind is pushing you to the side. Over a short distance this doesn't matter that much but over a longer distance you'll find yourself considerably offset from where you wanted to be. The solution is to establish how much you're drifting and then compensate by pointing your nose into the wind. If its very strong then you may need to do a pretty extreme angle from your intended course (20-30 degrees for example). It's going to vary of course by how much wind and from what direction.
senseispcc Posted July 19, 2023 Posted July 19, 2023 Many factors can influence your fly path, winds, compass errors, errors, engine torque, or plane trim, to note some! Never forget that WW2 planes are not equip like you with a computer or pc. Even if some ??? And did still fly by estimation! You should also try to fly planes for, let us say, 80 hours and get a lot of instructions how to do it before engaging in combat. And then follow your leader for a lot of hours to understand the plane you fly and this before engaging the enemy. Boring, is it not? This is a game! A fantastic one, a realistic one but still not reality, or many times I should have not come home to type this.
kestrel79 Posted July 19, 2023 Posted July 19, 2023 I think it's almost impossible to "stay on line", you are mainly looking to fly by rivers, lakes, forests, cities. Try to memorize the maps. If you are offline pause it and study look for some landmarks that's really how I fly mainly. Not that I'm any good though...
