Shocked AI

It often happens to me that in career mode, where I, despite being the squadron leader, always reset myself during briefing to the last place in the formation, my AI companions after an action (i.e.: clash with the enemy) remain "shocked", so to speak, continuing indefinitely to idle over the place of action, first of all our flight leader.
I'm forced to return to the base alone and I'm sorry because I would enjoy following them more until the landing.
I wonder if anyone can tell me how to avoid this to happen, carrying out the mission in full with AI mates...

Even though you're number 4 have you tried giving them a flight command?  They may still see you as the flight lead.

According to the manual: "pilot gestures are for communication between human players". Nonetheless, I have to try! Thanks!

S!

I've not access to Flight Leader Commands since I'm not the leader.

I tried, but without success (predictably).
This time the "upsetting" event was not an action of war but the simple fact that the number five of the formation for some reason did not take off sent the flight leader into a tailspin, who started going back and forth between WNW and ESE, without ever even heading towards the target.2023_7_19__15_17_57.thumb.png.a94de89ba3ab652bf75923ec8a0941f0.png2023_7_19__15_15_26.png.644ca100ab57c48bb788229f124e1fbe.png

That makes sense right enough !

If you're the flight leader your planes will generally follow you. If you don't lead the flight your planes just tend to wander about often not even following the flight route. If you're the unit commander it doesn't make sense to not lead flights. If you don't crazy things happen.

I don't understand why this has to happen; I think it's a weakness of the program. I'm bad at navigation, so I got into this habit since there are simulators that allow you to do it. Furthermore, I find myself embarrassed to interrupt the flight to open a command menu and stop to choose the most suitable one for the current situation: I find it an "immersion-killer". In the old Red Baron 3D, then, the community was agreed that this ploy significantly increased the effectiveness and aggressiveness of AI mates. For the rest, the artificial intelligence in this simulator is of a very good level (it strikes me, for example, the ability to take the initiative to attack targets of opportunity on the ground during a patrol: never seen in any other simulator, or at least not so well developed!). Too bad that the AI gets confused so easily, and that there is no longer any developer who can intervene!

You don't have to open a command menu for flight leader's commands. Most of the commands are just keyboard commands like Attack nearest air, Left Alt+1. You can find the others in the option section.

You're right. I forgot that (another nice feature of RoF). I learned all of them on memory for Falcon 3.0 a lot of time ago... But, again, I had no choice then, now I prefer to fly in formation. I think 777 and next developers should have cured more AI.

This time I was not the squadron leader and was put as number four in the flight by the mission generator of the career mode. Nevertheless, again one AI guy refused to start and AI flight leader, and with him the whole flight, went nuts...?

I think it's just a bug and it's a pity there's no one to fix!?
