Is there any Arado 234 KG or recon groups? Would be nice to do recon missions or bomb the bridges and Remagen… thanks.

III KG76 receives the Arado on July 1 1944.  This unit remains in service for the rest of the war, so you can fly the Arado on the Normandy and Bodenplatte maps.

PWCG does not impact any in game settings like realism.  It just generates a mission.

I was going to try the AR234 on the Normandy map before playing Bodenplatte but III KG76 doesn’t seem to be available in July ‘44 or August ‘44. Am I looking in the wrong place?

Not sure how it impacts unit availability but checking the squadron json III KG76 the introduction date is July 1, 1944, as Pat says however no airfield is defined for the unit prior to 1 September 1944. The earliest airfield is Essen-Mulheim (Bodenplatte). So possibly if the unit was meant to be also available in Normandy there should be an airfield defined. IE You've found a PWCG bug perhaps if Pat intended them for Normandy?

However, WW2.dk lists the bases for III Gruppe for the time as below. All are well East of the Normandy map and I'm not even sure they are included on the map as Pat is usually pretty good about keeping things historically correct where it is possible and the PWCG bases are Essen-Mulheim and Rheine. Possibly also the in-game airfields are not ok for jet ops from an AI point of view. Quick check for Burg located in real life just south of Remscheid and our IL2 map doesn't show an airfield. (Forgotten airfields europe). Therefore, I would expect Pat moved the unit to the next best airfield available in game.

10.6.44 - 12.44 Alt-Lönnewitz   Ju 88A, Ar 234
12.44 - 23.1.45 Burg*   Ar 234
23.1.45 - 3.45 Achmer   Ar 234
3.45 - 4.45 Marx   Ar 234
4.45 - 5.45 Kaltenkirchen   Ar 234

* 9./KG76 moved to Münster-Handorf on 17.12.44, and remained there to 3.45. 7./KG76 remained at Burg, at least until 3.45, and possibly never became operational.

Anyway, my thought is that probably Pat would have to add a Normandy base for July 1, 1944, for you to be able to pick III KG76 but only Pat can confirm that. Either that or perhaps add air starts and exit zones to end the mission at a map edge to represent off map bases.

Thanks for looking into all that! You may be right that there are no suitable airfields on Normandy despite the aircraft being in service. I guess we’ll see in future updates ?
