lwalter Posted July 15, 2023 Posted July 15, 2023 OpenComposite implements the OpenVR interface, which IL2 GB relies on, and substitutes for SteamVR. Some have noticed that it was more efficient than SteamVR. So this weekend, I decided to try out OpenComposite. It works really well with IL2 GB: - higher and more constant FPS (smoother flight) - no more flickering when transitioning between 2D and 3D. I will no longer go back to SteamVR for IL2 GB. 2
JayBeeJazzyboy Posted July 16, 2023 Posted July 16, 2023 Hi there, I'm a bit of a noob on this subject so apologies in advance for that but could you confirm that you don't need Steam for IL2 in VR please? I have had CLOD for 3 years and just used a monitor but I've just bought a Reverb G2 and I am wanting to try some of the titles that support VR.

I have the G2 and I did the “per game” installation. I don’t even have SteamVR installed on the PC. 1

With OpenComposite and supported games like IL2 GB (NOT CloD), you don't need SteamVR. 1
dburne Posted July 17, 2023 Posted July 17, 2023 Purchase direct from 1CGS website and you won't need Steam at all. 1
JayBeeJazzyboy Posted July 17, 2023 Posted July 17, 2023 Hi guys, Thanks for the help I do appreciate it. I've managed to get it running now, I bought battle of Kuban as it was only £16 on Sunday. It's my first experience of VR and I love it. I'm guessing my graphics are fairly poor as I only have a 2070 super but this was fine for my 1440 monitor and I didn't want to upgrade before in case I didn't like the VR. Things are a bit blurry but I can see all I need to fly. I can read quite clearly all my instruments and the cockpit views are quite clear Tho the scenery is a bit poor. I'm planning a new card now tho.? I have always loved Spitfires so once it was running I got in the Vb right away, no combat yet just flying and out of 4 flights I landed it 4 times so I was very chuffed. Um, can't say the same for taxying back tho.? Broke it 3 times trying to get it to go straight! 4th time last landing I was getting the hang of it. I'm working next three days now so won't get much time til Friday and then we're away for a few days so I'm not going to get much time in for a bit. Thanks man, that's what I did whilst waiting for a reply, then I bought Kuban thinking even if it didn't work it's only £16. Now I'm glad I did as it was the last day of the sale. 1

Voxman Posted July 18, 2023 Posted July 18, 2023 I just got into the VR world this week as well. Isn't it amazing?! G2 is my headset and have been tweaking and reading the forums for more information. Be sure to get the necksaver app for openXR. It's in this thread: https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/79847-step-by-step-instructions-for-openxr-and-necksafer-for-wmr-sets/ I'm also in the hunt for a new vid card as my RX5700XT is struggling in VR. 1 1

Yes, it's mind blowing in that first few moments isn't it? It's so immersive I can't see me going back to a monitor for simming ever! My first banked turn felt very wierd but I soon got used to it. ? Ah cards! My 2070s was like a radiator yesterday. I couldn't believe the heat coming out the top of the case tbh. I was considering a 4090 before I tried it and now I know I need one but I'm now considering the waterforce card from Gigabyte. Mounted in the top of the case blowing out the top should leave the rest of the case cool. My 2070s is under the CPU so not good. Thanks for the link by the way. Happy landings.
