DFLion Posted July 14, 2023 Posted July 14, 2023 DFLion_The Big Show_’Radar at Dawn’ Back in the old days, I created this mission in Oleg Maddox’s IL2 Sturmovik. Clostermann described what happened in great detail and I always liked playing the mission – a one on one dogfight! Now we have an accurate map, I’ve recreated the mission as best as I could, flying the actual distances. Because of our situation with drop-tanks watch your fuel carefully, remember you have to cover all the waypoints for the radar calibration? Again I would suggest at the start of the mission putting your Spitfire on autopilot and watching it taxi out, this will ‘sync’ the mission timing. I particularly liked the change in the sky situation as dawn breaks over the Channel. Watch out for other aircraft in your vicinity and good luck. DFLion DF_The_Big_Show_'Radar at Dawn'.zip 3 3 1
Ulricus Posted July 14, 2023 Posted July 14, 2023 (edited) Excellent! As reader of Clostermann's book, I've played all of your previous Big Show - Missions. Real great fun! Looking forward to this new mission! Keep up your good work! Edited April 10, 2024 by Ulricus
Ulricus Posted July 15, 2023 Posted July 15, 2023 (edited) Played it and it was great fun. Thanks again for providing this to the community! Setting reminds me of the old "Fighter Duel", which I loved to play in my younger days. Installation wasn't a problem, only searching the recommended skins took some time (but after I found "Von Graff's" yellow FW for another BS-mission, I knew how to do). Perhaps attaching the recommended dds-files would help newbies to get the full impression of your BS-missions. Any plans for the next BS-Mission? V-1 No-balls/Dive bombings? Orkneys/Stratosphere? [Spoiler Alert] Meeting the "twins" above the canal was a great idea. And running low on juice increases the adrenaline level. Excellent! Edited April 10, 2024 by Ulricus
DFLion Posted July 15, 2023 Author Posted July 15, 2023 Ulricus, You can read my mind, very pleased you have enjoyed this mission, the next mission will be 'Hurricanes' (1943) attacking No-Ball (V1) site No.82 situated between Abbeville and Amiens, escorted by 602 Sqn Spitfire VB's. This was a desperate and sad mission - wait to I make it, all will be revealed! DFLion PS Orkneys to come 3
