A friend has just purchased an RTX4090 and after running tests on very similar Rigs(non VR) the RTX4090 is looking like it is 43% more powerful using the Unigine Heaven 4.0 benchmark. We will be doing more testing with 3DMark, but as a baseline test the Heaven benchmark has always worked well for me when putting a GPU through its' paces. So those claiming that the RTX4090 is a beast and possibly the biggest step up from one GPU generation to the next are probably not overstating there experience. ? I will go back to sleep now. S!Blade<>< FWIW, I’ve never run a benchmark ever. I just express my experience with the hardware I run.

S!Blade<>< Those tests you are doing are great for raw performance. Or competitive overclocking. But the differences in game are always going to depend on resolution, graphics settings, and how CPU limited you are. And be unique to the setup. Edited July 10, 2023 by RossMarBow 2

Agreed, but raw power is a good starting point when considering a GPU for a high performance PC build, especially if you use VR. I am not saying it is necessary, especially with the coding limitations we now have with almost all Combat Flight Sims, but it can't hurt going forward if you can afford the price tag. I can't, so I will happily keep playing with my RTX3090 FTW which I purchased used at less than half the price of a RTX4090. There again, I do not do VR, so I am quite pleased with my Rig as is. Freycinet Posted July 12, 2023 Author Posted July 12, 2023 Tho it seems MSFS 2024 will be using multi-cores to their full capacity.... I was attracted by the fantastic contrast and rapidity of OLED monitors, but the more I read about them (burn-in, low brightness) the less enchanted I am. So it will probably be a 32 inch LCD monitor. I am in the special situation that I need to be able to look above the monitor, so 32 inch is max and even then I want a stand that allows me to place the screen very close to the top of my desk.

No game is full multicore so extra cores for gaming is just a waste of money, they always depend on how fast single cores can run. I believe burn in is not an issue on modern oleds. Well not a major issue. I have never seen burn in on a phone before, and phones have had oleds for over a decade. I recently brought an oled laptop, theirs a few things you can do to help prevent burn in like having a black background and auto hiding the task bar. And if games have the option to make fixed hud elements dark colours do that too. If I was on the market for a new monitor I would buy an oled for sure. I'm planning on getting one maybe next year or the year after when the prices come down. Spending the money on an oled will be far better than a 4090 IMO But even a 60hz oled out performs any LCD display, but I believe the new oleds run at 360hz or something? The big thing is the pixel response time of 0.1ms, even with huge amounts of movement going on it will be crystal clear. Unbeatable. Try and check it out in person you will be hooked. Playing il-2 on a modern OLED would be amazing, the amount of detail you will be able to see when the picture is moving extremely fast will be amazing. Did you look at those after market monitor mounts? They are the best option for what you want.
Freycinet Posted September 11, 2023 Author Posted September 11, 2023 I got this 32-inch baby: https://pcmonitors.info/reviews/gigabyte-m32u/ ...And I love it so far!
