MajorMagee Posted June 29, 2023 Posted June 29, 2023 The user playable vehicles have the appropriate Ground Unit Tactical Code Number patterns available to be assigned in the mission editor. On the other hand the AI vehicles seem to only have Aircraft Appropriate Number/Letter Code patterns available. Was this done on purpose, or is it just an artifact of legacy programming? Is there any way to change/modify this so you can assign appropriate numbers to the AI vehicles in the mission editor?

I assume that by "AI vehicles" you mean the vehicles that cannot be player-controlled (e.g. a Sd.Kfz.251) rather than AI-controlled instances of vehicles that are also player-controllable (e.g. a Churchill tank). In that case, these vehicles do not feature changeable markings. You can assign a code in the Mission Editor, but it won't show up in-game. If you really need adjustable tactical codes, you have to use the player-controllable version of the vehicle, if it exists (with the underscore, e.g. "_pzvi_h1" instead of "pzvi_h1"), or if this specific vehicle type isn't player-controllable, use a similar vehicle that is (e.g. the Sd.Kfz.10 instead of the Sd.Kfz.7 for a Flak truck). Note that the AI for the player-controllable vehicles is heavier, so you won't be able to place as much of them. The reason that only the player-controllable vehicles have customisable tactical codes is most likely that it takes the Devs a lot of time to enable tactical codes and DVD. There may be performance issues involved as well. 1

I was confused by the mission editor having that as an option for the AI vehicles, but it was not properly implemented in the right format for vehicles. Probably best that it doesn't work now that I know to skip using it as part of mission development.
