So far Battle of Normandy Spitfire MkIX career campaign is turning out to be very buggy and almost unplayable...

Started a Battle of Normandy career campaign flying as a Spitfire MKIX pilot in "Preparing for the Invasion" scenario flying from Tangmere A/F in No. 401 Sqn RCAF.

Mission#1 - Bomb V-1 Site.

- Took off with Squadron reached target area - NO Issues, ran smoothly.

- Reached target area- There was no V1 site at target area and or no targets at all to attack near target area.(I believe target area was in grid 2618 approx.)

- Squadron proceeded to just circle around the target area presumably looking for targets which there where none. This took approx. 10 minutes of just circling before the              Squadron finally headed to the next waypoint and followed the assigned path home.

- Ran out of fuel approx. 25km off of the English coast because of unnecessary circling at the target area.

Mission #2 - Bomb V-1 site.

- Lined up on runway I was #3 in flight everything looked normal.

- Flight lead received order from ATC to taxi to runway(which is very unusual have never seen of heard that before). Flight lead proceeded to make a right hand turn off the runway and followed the taxi way around the runway and came up on the rest of the squadron from behind and promptly crashed into the squadron at the end of the runway.

- #2 in flight took off just as flight lead crashed into the planes at the end of the runway.

- The rest of the flight that was left after the taxing mishap proceeded to take off and just circle around Tangmere A/F not knowing what to do or follow the planned waypoints to the target area.

- I ended the mission as I didn't feel like the mission was going to happen at this point and was tired of circling around Tangmere A/F.

Mission #3 - Escort Bombers

- Took off from Tangmere A/F no issues.

- Bomber formation of B26 Mauraders appeared to be trailing flight of bombers by 100 - 200 meters flew like this all the way to target area in Le Havre city.

- Enroute to the target the bomber formation was flying at 180mph all the way to the target in France which seems to slow. The posted waypoint airspeed was 261mph according to the flight plan or waypoints.

- Bomber formation did appear to bomb properly and the rest of the squadron of bombers tightened up the formation after getting order "to drop on his command"

- Return airspeed of bombers was 210 mph from release of bombs to A/F in England.

I have played several German and Russian career missions for Battle of Stalingrad and Moscow and they for the most part run very smoothly without issues like I am seeing in the Battle of Normandy career.

Hope this info can fix the issues for the RAF Career missions.

Cheers,

The missing V-1 site issue should be fixed in the current build. If not, please post the mission file here.

Regarding Spitfire IXs in general: yes, it's going to be a bit difficult to cross the Channel and back on such a low fuel load.

The other things I'll post on up the chain to the developers.

Yes, I realize this is the case you can't linger over targets in France due to fuel load but unfortunately the AI is doing this as they are lingering too long around a target that doesn't exist and by the time they decide to turn for home they are too low on fuel and run out....that was my point on that specific topic.

Thank you for passing these bugs up the chain ?

No problem. ? But yes, check the V-1 launch site missions again - everything looks good here on my end now.

Will do and will let you know how it runs....

So I got lucky and I had a mission to Bomb V1 site.....Unfortunately while already on the runway the flight lead asked tower for permission to taxi to the runway and the tower instructed him "affirmative ok to taxi to runway" which we where already on and he made an abrupt right turn headed to the taxi way and circled around to the end of the runway and crashed into the back of the squadron that was lined up on the runway.

#3 in the flight did the same thing and made a right hand turn to the taxiway but then #4 took off so I did as well and the what was left of the flight took off as well #3 took off after he made it to the end of the runway. The flight proceeded to circle around Tangmere A/F.

I put my plane on auto pilot to see what it would do and it just fell in line with the rest of the planes left in the flight and we again just circled Tangmere.

I quit the mission but tried restarting same mission to see if the same thing would happen and it did.

Alright, I'll make a report about it. Thanks!

In the meanwhile, to avoid the problem, just choose to start missions in the air. Not ideal, but it'll keep your guys from running into each other.

if we have airplane that needs drop tanks to be posible to finish missions on Normandy, why you dont ask devs to change its fuel consumption if they quit on making drop tanks. There should not be any problems with making it use less fuel then it should. Its pointless to just keep this on if missions were made in plan of having droptanks that will never come, so what should player do then, devs should find way to fix that.

Starting in the air helps a little

It would help more if we could start close to the french coast where pilots actually "dropped their babies"

Because trying to solve one problem by creating another problem is never going to be an acceptable solution.

What I have found out about the leader, and maybe #2, wanting to taxi is related to the number of planes in the flight. That is in my career the fist 3 missions only had 6 planes and went as planed. Mission #4 and #5 had eight planes and the lead wanted to taxi. This behavior does not happen at all fields and makes me think it has something to do with the spawn point being placed to far down the runway. If you transfer to some other unit at another field the odds are it would not happen.

Good luck and get 1 of them buzz bombs for the gipper!

This same, different airfield, I've got it on auto and currently been circling Chichester for 20 mins.

Looks like I'm going to have to go it on my own on this mission!?
