from the point of view of tank gameplay, it does not bring more than the maps of the EAST ... and is very far from what is the Norman terrain (bocage, roads ...)

Sorry! I didn't realize this was a Tank Crew forum. For tanks I can't recommend as I do not really play Tank Crew.... For planes: Yes, definitely.

If you like longer missions the Normandy map is great. Flying across the channel brings a new element. You have to fly more conservatively. If you have a damaged plane or run low on fuel that long flight is a nail biter. I like the Boddenplatte plane set better. I prefer the Spit IX to the XIV, but the Normandy map still has a good plane set. The B Mustang is a beaut. The Mosquito is a fun raider. In the quick mission builder there are missions to attack or defend the mulberry harbors on the beaches. These are crazy, there is so much AAA. If your CPU can handle it this is the closet to a big battle we get in the sim.

If you are buying for the map and experience get Normandy. If you are buying for the planes and want the best late war rides get Boddenplatte. Ultimately get both so you have all the planes to use on the Normandy map.

Gven that the last Eastern Front module was 5 years ago, and since then we only had Western Front modules, what's stopping you?

I'm waiting for the Black Friday sale...

(And yes, I wish some portion of BON could be upgraded into Tank Crew 2.)

Maybe get BOB when it's on sale. This has some great planes. I like both BOB and BON but the latter is more expensive. However, if you are British and have lived in Kent, then BON is a must. White cliffs of Dover etc.

Just for the eye-candy factor alone, yes. ?

It is the nicer of the two Western European WWII maps - just be aware that a lot of the British targets aren't as accurate (i.e. weren't backdated to the WWII era) and there is a lack of bocage/hedgerows. Other than that - it is a really excellent map overall.

It is also worth noting that bombing of the U.K. had largely ended by 1944... so we'd really need those targets more in a 1941-1943 Channel map. I had personally wonder if a 1942/1943 Channel map planeset (with a half dozen planes) would have allowed putting some more funding towards expanding that map - but the fact that we are getting a Spitfire Mk. IXc (early) Collector Plane next year suggests that this isn't in the plans.

Operation Jubilee would've been epic though - a landing in France that the Germans won, and one of the largest air-battles. Plus the Mustang Mk.I

Normandy map looks same as the Bodenlatte map. If you want to fly over the Channel you can do it in CloD Blitz besides the Channel Map looks better in CloD Blitz. What remains is the Normandy plane set, worth or not - it's your call in the end

Normandy doesn't look at all like Bodenplatte. The sea is much better, there are more villages, there are farms in between the villages, etc.

Whether or not it looks better than in CloD; that's pure opinion. Personally I think BoX looks much better, and more importantly, it runs in VR. I'd advise the OP to find screenshots and look for himself rather than trust anyone's judgement on aesthetics.

Did I say this it's his call in the end, did I? - yes I did.

  • I could even go too far and say just "DCS NORMANDY 2" as second option. DCS is far ahead from "IL-2 GB" and IL-2 CloD Blitz is between both.

Since when is the sea much better in IL-2 GB and BoX look better overall. IL-2 GB always has this Cartoon Graphic look and doesn't look much different from Rise of Flight Graphic style.  When I start DCS or IL-2 CloD Blitz and go back to IL-2 GB it feels like a downgrade. The difference in Graphic style and how the lighting apply to the scene + the poly count is really noticeable.

Pure opinion is always what is noticeable when you switch between these games - "The first seconds of fun, you can pretty much stretch that out to be an entire game"

Well, the OP was asking about Normandy in this series. He wasn't asking about best Normandy or other games with Normandy. So injecting that in the first place is silly. "Is GB's Normandy worth buying? I have GB and tired of the Eastern Front." You: "Play other game, its better, I always cry when I play GB Normandy."

I wasn't talking about GB vs CloD or DCS, this is the GB forum and CloD/DCS have nothing to do with that. I was responding to your claim that the "Normandy map looks same as the Bodenlatte [sic] map".

Your going on and on about how in your opinion other games have better graphics than IL2 BoX is completely off topic and again, purely subjective. If the OP wants good graphics, he should go play, I dunno, Red Dead Redemption 2 or something. But he isn't asking for a list of better-looking games, he's asking if BoN is worth it compared to the Eastern Front maps.

Get it.  Lots of scenarios and PWCG has a campaign that starts in the summer of 1941.

I get it, but he is not only buying the map. And if everybody say only yes and yes is kinda like using chatgpt or asking alexa.

I not started the wrestling. Nothing was off-topic - when he ask "should I get" means that he wants all input from us, point. And he is not only getting the map, btw. He has the other module as long he is happy how the game is why not to buy the Normandy DLC, already self - explaining.

-> For me is this Normandy DLC only worth on sale.
