MarcoRossolini Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 I've had a rubbish night tonight. Flying every Soviet fighter in the game, and basically being shot down by everyone. These Bf-109 drivers seem to have icons or something on in the expert server, it didn't matter what I did, they'd just get me. I knew that to get anywhere, I'd just have to keep hitting my head against a brickwall. Eventually it'll crack... I'd tried the La-5 (bad idea, the moment I got into a dogfight, I was already dead), the Yak (I probably expect too much of it) Then I tried the Certified Varnished Coffin (i.e. the LaGG). Hmm... The first flight, the LaGG was true to its nickname. Then I tried again. Taken off from that airfield East of Beketovka (which I've forgotten), I climb to about 3500 m when I noticed a big old contrail. Since I'm still our side of the lines I assume its an enemy and guess, judging by the height that it is a 190. I'm right. I begin shadowing it. It begins to dive. Its diving on what appears to be 2 other aircraft. I don't know what one was, but the other was a 190. Assumedly the other aircraft was Soviet, I don't know his fate. All this time, I'm getting in closer to the two focke-wulfs... We commence to dogfight... and dogfight... and dogfight... These guys were pretty smart, their accuracy wasn't great (my wings were damaged and I heard a big bang once) but the coffin kept in one piece. We descended to just above the clouds, roughly 1500m where it just kept on going. My energy was non-existent and the Focke-Wulfs just kept coming. If I brought the coffin around on one guy I could feel certain that the other guy was at that point coming onto my tail. Judging by that the mission ended about 5 mins after the fight, and I remember seeing a 25 min warning as I took off. I assume the fight took about 10 mins, all time I was under attack by those two guys.. By the end of it my hand was aching from the strain. Given that I was fighting FWs I assumed from the outset that a rather cooked coffin was to be my fate. So, every second I remained flying was a victory to me in my mind. Yet by the end of it I had managed to damage one in the wings (bullet strikes observed) who kept fighting and then at the end, I managed to get a shot off at another guy but couldn't remain to watch because I was paranoid about what might be behind me. Finally, one guy seemed to have vanished and after a small dogfight with the other guy, he too vanished. I couldn't believe my luck. I scanned all around and couldn't find him. I check the scoreboard and found I'd got a kill, I don't know where from. Possibly the guy I got the quick shot off at before turning around. I check the fuel gauge, which is all but empty and head for home. My engine conks out and I crash land, coming to rest just on the runway... Anyway, that one dogfight has made the past hour totally worth it. The effort and the feeling going into it were so amazing. Thank you 777 for this game. The amount of emotions I was putting into that just then was ridiculous. I don't mean to say that I'm an awesome LaGG driver (and drivings the word) or anything, if those guys had been a little more accurate I'd have been gone, but as we were roughly the same skills, it amounted to an epic 10 minute dogfight. My apologies to the 190s, I didn't have the HUD displayed at all so I have no clue who you were. Salute to you. 10
=38=Tatarenko Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 Excellent post! That's what it's all about. 1
Endy Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 I'll have to get over my fear of being shot down continuously, and have a go online one day. Good story, inspirational. 3
BraveSirRobin Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 MP really is great. It's a lot like golf. You can spend all day crashing into the trees, but crush one great driver down the middle of the fairway and you can't wait to tee off again. It's just like that, except you're pretending to kill people. 1
No_85_Gramps Posted August 2, 2014 Posted August 2, 2014 I get shot down more often than not, but I'm still having a blast in MP. I stick w/the Yak and at least you have a chance against the 109/190 fliers. My flying and aiming have gotten better and I score an occasional kill. Some folks log-on, take off and get shot down and promptly leave the server. Hell, I'm still having fun and there is nothing like 20 planes flying around to muck things up. Last night I scored 3 kills, but was killed myself 13 times, a new record, but the whole time it was fun! I have a tendency to hang around too long after getting damaged instead trying to escape for home, or at least make an emergency landing. I know MP is not everyone's cup of tea but I enjoy MP! My first foray into MP found me getting killed left and right, but I kept at it and have been improving. If you haven't tried it, come by and give it a shot, just don't expect to survive too long if your are new to MP. Off to get the latest update now, hope to see you in the skies, but not in my six... 1
Feathered_IV Posted August 2, 2014 Posted August 2, 2014 Great to read of your experience. It's amazing how much more memorable a flight can be when you fight to live, not simply fight to make a kill.
Pringliano Posted August 2, 2014 Posted August 2, 2014 Thx a lot for taking the time to write your text Marco! It was a delicious read!
BMA_West Posted August 2, 2014 Posted August 2, 2014 +1 Great show, apreciated the read so thx for sharing!
Talisman Posted August 2, 2014 Posted August 2, 2014 Thanks for posting. I enjoyed reading about your exploits. And congratulations on surviving the 2 x 190. BoS might just turn out to be a classic flight sim ) I hope so.
TJT Posted August 2, 2014 Posted August 2, 2014 Those are the kind of flight sim moments to remember.
Lusekofte Posted August 2, 2014 Posted August 2, 2014 Personally I don't like where this sim is going, I continue hoping it will be useful for Squadrons and we will have dedicated servers. The only thing keeping me love this sim is the LAGG and the PE-2 and a little bit IL 2 sturmovik. I had a similar experience yesterday. I always get shot down, always, but yesterday I tried out the FW-190, despite it being hammered in all other forums I liked it, I shot down two russian planes with it. Then I went flying my trusted PE-2, it flight characteristics is just marvelous and to me it seems like the best simulated physics ever made. I can fly that one all day long. I went up in altitude and went for bomb a airbase, seeing on contact below I dived toward it and actually hit him with a short burst with my cannons. I did see he lost controls and flew on and bomb the airfield. After my bomb run I got attacked by a 109 and my gunner shot him down What a treat, first time I actually achieved something with this game. However, when I started out in this game the trim was set as a hotas , now it all are based on buttons. A game of this potential should be developed for all to like

A game of this potential should be developed for all to like I don't know anywhere where it has been said there will be no dedicated servers, for now the MP servers are to do bugtrack and for testing, this has been clear from start of early access. There is plenty of squadron activity and servers with RoF why will there not be here? There is no trim wheel on FW190 so is this not more historically accurate? am also hoping for trim on axis for aircraft that have trim wheels but done in such a way to avoid "trim on a slider" issues. When the game is released I think a lot will have changed Cheers Dakpilot
